“Touring is different at 34 than it was at 16”

Paramore‘s Hayley Williams has shared a statement with fans after the band cancelled four gigs on their North American tour due to illness.

  • READ MORE: Paramore live in New York City: still at the top of their game

Last Saturday (July 22), Paramore postponed their concert in San Francisco just hours before they were set to take the stage.

They then went on to shelve three further gigs on their North American tour in Seattle, Portland, and Salt Late City “in the interest of our health and the ability to put on a show you all deserve”.

Now, with the tour set to resume in Tulsa, Oklahoma tonight (July 29), Williams has addressed fans and discussed the issues with staying fit and healthy on tour.

She told fans that she became ill during a Houston gig earlier this month, and “muscled all the way through [the] LA [gig].

“By the time the excitement and all the nerves from all the LA shenanigans wore off, my body just gave out…” she added. “Touring is different at 34 than it was at 16, when leaving home felt like the greatest escape.

“Even in my 20’s, I benefitted from the constant music. It was a perfect distraction from relational issues and my own mind. This tour has done my heart a lot of good. I couldn’t be more grateful for the faces I see the first few seconds after we walk onstage during the intro. Those people revive me nightly.”

See the full statement below.

It was recently announced that Paramore are heading to Europe as a supporting act on Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, beginning on May 9, 2024. Check out the complete list of Europe tour dates here.

Paramore are currently touring in support of their recent sixth album, ‘This Is Why’, which arrived in February via Atlantic. In a five-star review, NME’s Sophie Williams wrote of it: “Paramore are reaching to where, finally, their music has wanted to get to for the best part of the past decade. Rather than try to top their peerless anthems, the band have instead uncovered a new warmth on ‘This Is Why’, and the effect is triumphant indeed.”

Vic Mensa Channels Early Career Hits On New House Track, "Eastside Girl"

Vic Mensa continues the convergence of hip-hop and electronic music with a lovelorn single reminiscent of his early roots.

The triple-threat rapper, producer and singer-songwriter has always been a wearer of many stylistic hats, though recently he’s found a new sense of inspiration within the world of electronic music. The Chicago native exploded to prominence with 2014’s debut single, “Down On My Luck,” which now serves as inspiration nearly a decade later for his new house track, “Eastside Girl.”

View the original article to see embedded media.

Mensa’s multi-dimensional talents and spheres of influence shine in spades on the single, out now via Roc Nation. Combining cultural elements of hip-hop and R&B with filtered strings and house grooves, he seals the deal with a characteristically ensnaring topline from Ty Dolla $ign.

“Ty is one of my favorite musicians and people to collaborate with,” Mensa said in a statement shared with EDM.com. “I pulled up to his studio to give him some of my weed brand 93BOYZ and he was working on a bunch of House music. I’ve been wanting to return to House ever since I made ‘Down On My Luck’ so it just made a lot of sense. Ty had played the guitar line already and it was giving me a surf-rock vibe so I started going a California direction with the lyrics then I programmed some House drums and samples. We were really just smoking and vibing and ‘Eastside Girl’ is what came out.”

Much like its underlying sentiments, “Eastside Girl” breaks through numerous stylistic borders in a way that will feel familiar to Mensa’s longtime fans. He’s joined on the production side by mxnxtxr, Lpeezy and Subroza on the track, which cultivates a subtly summery atmosphere.

ALRT releases multi-faceted album ‘Multiplicity’ – Dancing Astronaut

The much-anticipated album, ‘Multiplicity,’ from DJ/producer ALRT is on its way. Echoing his personal journey beyond the studio, the album paints a potent sonic landscape, fusing elements of tech house and bass house with his own distinct style.

The introduction, “Multiplicity – Intro,” provides a dramatic cinematic touch that sets the mood for the album. Followed by “Familia,” an energetic, party-starting track that exudes ALRT’s recognizable bass house style.

Next up is “New Hype,” a dynamic, party-anthem that swiftly sets a thrilling, adrenaline-pumping tone for the album. The flow then switches into “City,” a potent tech house piece, ingeniously designed and addictively catchy. “Run It Up” is the album’s electrifying anthem, elevated by brass horns that amplify the single’s grandiosity. It’s an aural delight featuring playful, slurred notes in the drop and a stimulating tempo that throbs with intent and Middle Eastern touches. Adding an element of surprise, “One Time” switches gears to the bass house genre at the drop, revealing a captivating and unexpected club-ready tech house sound. “Make You Move” distinguishes itself as one of the most dance-floor-friendly tracks on the album, laden with unpredictable twists. “Through The Fire” catapults listeners into a new realm, introducing a fresh genre twist with its clever incorporation of UK garage. It beautifully disrupts and enriches the album’s flow with soulful vocals that pay tribute to the raw and emotive landscapes of the UK garage scene. “Never” stands as a testament to the multilayered nature of “Multiplicity.” It rides on a house tempo, interspersed with chopped-up vocals, crafting a unique emotional space distinct from the rest of the tracks.

Reaching the climax of the album is “Too Hot,” a bass house gem packed with stimulating vocal samples, sudden tempo shifts, and a slick flow. “Air Drums” then downshifts with a high-energy sound, offering a respite from the album’s ceaseless intensity.

In a heartfelt tribute to his family, “Mother” reveals gentle melodies and voice samples of his wife and child, illustrating his new roles as a father and husband in a glowing light.

Taking a minimalistic approach, “High Status” is packed with experimental elements and cutting-edge sounds. The final track “1985” weaves a nostalgic soundscape influenced by ALRT’s trance music memories, offering a sublime conclusion and a tranquil aura to guide listeners out of the extensive, immersive journey.

Multiplicity is more than an album; it’s a profound narrative of ALRT’s personal and musical evolution. It’s a defining work for ALRT, offering a diverse array of sounds and themes, each track skillfully linked to the next. In an electronic music culture often plagued by monotony, ‘Multiplicity’ delivers a much-needed breath of fresh air.

Drake takes aim at Pusha T and Pharrell on Travis Scott’s ‘Meltdown’ collab

Drake has reignited his feud with Pusha T and also taken aim at Pharrell on his new Travis Scott collaboration ‘Meltdown’.

The two rappers have long taken shots at each other in their songs but their beef came to a head in 2018 when, on ‘Infrared’, Pusha-T referenced the claims that Drake used a ghostwriter called Quentin Miller. The rappers then began a short back-and-forth of diss tracks.

Now, on a track from Scott’s new album ‘Utopia’ – which landed yesterday (July 28) – Drake hits out at Push again, also bringing Pharrell into the frame.

He raps: “I melt down the chains that I bought from yo boss / Give a fuck about all of that heritage shit / Since V not around, the members done hung up the Louis / They not even wearing that shit.”

Listen to the track below.

Elsewhere on ‘Meltdown’, Travis Scott fans have been speculating that the rapper has dissed actor Timothée Chalamet on the song.

At the end of the song’s second verse, La Flame makes reference to Willy Wonka, a character Chalamet portrays in the upcoming film Wonka.

“Wrappin’ the cheese, wrap around me ’cause I’ve got property (Wrap, cheese, wrap) / Chocolate AP and chocolate the Vs (Vs), got the Willy Wonka factory (Vs) / Burn an athlete like it’s calories, find another flame hot as me, bitch,” he raps.

Fans believe the rapper dissed the actor due to Chalamet being reality TV star Kylie Jenner’s rumoured boyfriend. Jenner is Scott’s ex and the pair share two children, a five-year-old daughter named Stormi and a 13-month-old named Aire.

Scott’s ‘Utopia’ album credits feature Beyoncé, SZA, Kanye West, Daft Punk‘s Guy-Manuel and more. Alongside the release, a new accompanying movie called Circus Maximus is now playing in cinemas.

Elsewhere, Drake has bought an iconic ring belonging to Tupac Shakur at auction for $1million (£780,000).

Holly Humberstone and d4vd team up on new track ‘Superbloodmoon’

Holly Humberstone has teamed up with d4vd on a brand new track called ‘Superbloodmon’ from her upcoming debut album.

  • READ MORE: D4vd is pop’s new DIY innovator: “I can make 10 songs in one night!”

The song is the second preview of Humberstone’s debut album ‘Paint My Bedroom Black’, which was announced this month.

Discussing the track, which the pair premiered on stage together in London recently, d4vd said: “Holly and I met in London and wrote this song in just a few hours. It was really effortless and special. We both loved the idea of a ‘Superbloodmoon’ and two people witnessing the same thing no matter where they are in the world.

“We also got to perform it together at my show in London a couple months ago, which was the first time I’ve ever gotten to collab with someone onstage like that and it was really fun. I’m very grateful to Holly for having me on this song.”

Humberstone added: “I had been a huge fan of d4vd’s work for about a year and was lucky enough to catch him whilst he was in London. We went into the studio and wrote ‘Superbloodmoon’. It came pretty naturally as we had both been touring for what seemed like forever, and wanted to write about the feelings that come with leaving your home and the people you love behind.

“I had the title for the song on my notes, and it just stemmed from there. We wrote about witnessing the same thing from opposite sides of the world and feeling lonely but connected through that experience at the same time. I love the song and I’m so grateful to d4vd for bringing it to life with me.”

Humberstone will release ‘Paint My Bedroom Black’ on October 19 via Polydor/Darkroom/Geffen. Ahead of the album announcement, the singer also released the LP’s double A-side singles ‘Antichrist’ and ‘Room Service’.

Earlier this year, d4vd was unveiled as the inaugural cover artist on The CoverNME‘s newly launched weekly cover story featuring emerging talent from across the globe.  Every week, a rising artist will feature on The Cover, and the full interview with d4vd can be read here.

Houston police release full report into Astroworld tragedy

Police in Houston, Texas have released a full report into the deadly crowd surge at Travis Scott‘s Astroworld festival in 2021.

During a performance on November 5 2021, thousands were left injured when the over-capacity crowd surged towards the front of the stage during Scott’s headline performance.

10 people were killed by compressive asphyxiation during the show — with victims aged between age nine and 27.

Last month, it was revealed that a grand jury in Texas had decided that Scott would not face charges over the incident, and a full report has now been filed.

The 1,266-page report can be read in full here. It features eyewitness accounts from festival attendees, Astroworld organisers, police officers and more.

Scott’s lawyer Kent Schaffer said that the decision to not indict Scott had come as “a great relief” to his client (via BBC).

Schaffer confirmed in a statement that the jury had met, but chose not to indict his client. He also denied any wrongdoing from the rapper. “He never encouraged people to do anything that resulted in other people being hurt,” he said. “Travis is not responsible. Bringing criminal charges against him will not ease [the victim’s] pain.”

At the time, Scott said that the tragedy had left him “devastated” but didn’t realise quite how severe the events were until he left the stage. Following the incident, thousands of plaintiffs came forward, asking for what tallied to be billions of dollars in potential damages.

Yesterday (July 28), Travis Scott released his long-awaited new album ‘Utopia’, which features contributions from Beyoncé, SZA, Kanye West, Daft Punk‘s Guy-Manuel, Bon Iver, The Weeknd, Sampha, Drake, James Blake, Young Thug and many more.
