Maz Drops Haunting Deep House Track, "Sky Father" With Antdot and Beacon Bloom

Making serious noise out of Brazil, Maz is back with his latest dance music masterstroke, “Sky Father.”

Teaming up with Antdot, Maz has delivered a haunting house track to lose yourself during late nights on the dancefloor. Organic production and spellbinding synths are the song’s cornerstones, emulsifying into a mesmerizing arrangement with an atmospheric ache.

New Zealand-based electronic outfit Beacon Bloom stun on the track, which blends emotive lyricism with alluring sound design to hypnotic effect. It’s out now on Maz and Antdot’s label, Dawn Patrol, which has been gaining momentum as of late.

Maz is on fire at the moment, garnering support from some of the dance music scene’s elite acts, including Tiësto, Black Coffee, RÜFÜS DU SOL and Keinemusik. His breakout remix of Luediji Luna’s “Banho de Folhas” topped Beatport’s Afro House chart while his stunning rework of Zeca Veloso’s and Sued Nunes’ “Todo Homem” and “Povoada” (also with Antdot) reached the top spot of the marketplace’s Organic House and Afro House charts, respectively.

It’s all led to a major milestone for Maz, who was recently signed to Wasserman for DJ bookings. Fans will soon be able to catch him live and hear “Sky Father” everywhere.

“Although Antdot and I have already released other collaborations on the remix front, ‘Sky Father’ is the first-ever original track we worked together on,” Maz said. “It came even before our remixes of ‘Todo Homem’ and ‘Povoada,’ which reached #1 on Beatport’s Organic House and Afro House charts, so now it’s becoming a very special follow-up. It took us a long time to release it because we care deeply about this record, and we invested a significant amount of time making adjustments to improve its sound.”

Listen to Soccer Mommy’s version of Sheryl Crow’s ‘Soak Up The Sun’

Soccer Mommy – also known as Sophie Allison – has shared a cover of Sheryl Crow’s ‘Soak Up The Sun’. Check it out below.

The track is the lead single taken from the American singer-songwriter’s fourth studio album, ‘C’mon, C’mon’, which was released in 2002.

It was also the track that saw the musician begin to steer into more pop territory, and depict the struggles of having a “crummy job” and no financial security, yet able to maintain a positive outlook as she declares “I’m gonna soak up the sun”.

Allison has spoken out about her admiration for Crow in the past. In an interview with The New York Times last year, she said: “[Crow] has so many songs that are these massive hits that, at least for someone my age, you can’t have grown up and not heard those songs.”

She continued, adding that the artist has a “knack for saying something hard, but making it feel like she’s ready to acknowledge it and be cool with this hard acceptance.” Check out her indie-inspired take on the ’00s track below.

The cover comes ahead of Soccer Mommy’s tour of North America, where she will act as support for Maggie Rogers. The latest of the live shows will take place tomorrow (July 29) in Philadelphia. Find a full list of upcoming dates and remaining tickets here.

The live shows come in light of Allison’s most recent studio album, ‘Sometimes, Forever’, which arrived last summer.

Last year, she also released a demo version of the song ‘Darkness Forever’, which featured a nod to Taylor Swift by dubbing it ‘Sophie’s Version’. While the version on the record is atmospheric and eerie and progressively gets heavier. The demo version, however, is much more consistently industrial, blending glitchy and abrasive synths with an intentionally rough vocal track.

In a four-star review of ‘Sometimes, Forever’, NME wrote: “The reductive tags that may have previously been assigned to Soccer Mommy – sad, chill, nostalgic – have no foothold here. This is nuanced, purposeful songwriting from an artist growing.”

HI-LO Returns to Drumcode with CRESCENDO/OPEN YOUR MIND EP

Oliver Heldens has been a busy man this summer; playing multiple sets at world renowned festivals and pumping out a steady stream of releases under two names. Just last week, under his HI-LO alias, Oliver returned to Adam Beyer’s Drumcode label with another A/B side release “CRESCENDO”/”OPEN YOUR MIND”.

This is HI-LO’s third such offering on Drumcode, following “Hypnos/Hera” in 2021 and “Rabbit Hole” with Layton Giordani last year. “CRESCENDO” follows the HI-LO formula to a T, with a pounding kick drum, dark and vibey rhythm and creeping synths.

“My aim was to craft something hypnotic, dark, and trippy while maintaining a melodic and groovy essence,” Oliver says. “Personally, ‘CRESCENDO’ is one of those tracks I can play on an endless loop without getting tired of it. It has been exhilarating to witness the overwhelming response to the track in my HI-LO sets and in Adam’s sets at Time Warp in Germany and Brazil.”

“OPEN YOUR MIND” is an energetic banger that will get you grooving to the beat. The trademark HI-LO kick drum is there to open the track, but the bassline and unrelenting beat take center stage on this track. Not surprisingly, this is a track that has made it into Oliver’s more mainstream sets. Regardless of genre, “Open Your Mind” is a certifiable banger.

“After months of road testing and fine-tuning, I am beyond excited about the final result.” Oliver added of “OPEN YOUR MIND. “I’ve had a blast playing this track not only in my HI-LO sets but also in several ‘mainstage’ sets as Oliver Heldens.”

Check out the latest from HI-LO “CRESCENDO/OPEN YOUR MIND” out now on Drumcode. Make sure to check out HI-LO’s upcoming summer tour dates as well.

July 28: Tomorrowland x Drumcode – Boom, Belgium
August 4: Weeknd Festival – Helsinki, Finland
August 12: Fresh Fest – Chorzów, Poland
August 27: Mysteryland x Drumcode Stage – Amsterdam, Netherlands
September 3: Electric Zoo – New York, United States

Zedd Returns to His Roots With Heart-Rending Remix of John Summit and Hayla's "Where You Are"

Zedd has given John Summit and Hayla’s global house hit, “Where You Are,” a refreshing splash of his old sound for an impassioned new remix.

Zedd, who debuted the high-flying remix during his 2023 Ultra Music Festival set, begins with his archetypal ticking clock foley alongside a slow-burning blend of emotive keys and luxuriant synth stabs. Hayla’s vocals are paired beautifully with Zedd’s production, which reaches a fever pitch at the drop, where we’re greeted with a soaring progressive sound that harkens back to his 2012 generational dance anthem, “Clarity.”

This nostalgic trip down primetime dance music lane brings a welcomed bliss to the balmy summer. Take a listen below.

In recent Zedd news, a raver in attendance at the recent EDC Las Vegas festival went into labor during the DJ’s set. The onsite medical staff safely transported her out of the crowd and into a local hospital, where she gave birth to her daughter.

Zedd heard about the incident and posted on Twitter to find the mother, who responded within an hour to identify herself.

“So happy you’re both healthy and that I had the honor to be the soundtrack,” Zedd replied.

You can find Zedd’s new remix of “Where You Are” on streaming platforms here.

After prime-time Ultra debut, Zedd’s remix of John Summit, Hayla’s ‘Where You Are’ is now streaming – Dancing Astronaut

If his Ultra Music Festival set was any indication, Zedd knows the power of an opening statement.

On March 24, before a crowd of thousands toting flags from around the world, the True Colors producer launched into his set with an unreleased remix of what unequivocally ranks as one of this year’s biggest dance records: John Summit and Hayla‘s “Where You Are.” The stuff of pure festival maximalism, the dizzying, damn near combustible take is classic Zedd, from that inimitable clock ticking sample to the peak-time flex of his progressive-house-meets-electro-pop muscle.

The blockbuster remix—Zedd’s sole release of 2023—has graduated from one of Ultra’s most-talked-about moments to the third official remix of “Where You Are.” And in a credit to Zedd’s craftsmanship, it provides a propulsive new perspective on “Where You Are” that uncannily further amplifies a song that couldn’t seem to soar any higher.

“Where You Are (Zedd Remix)” is out now via Off The Grid/Darkroom Records.

Sinead O’Connor’s brutal Piers Morgan snub resurfaces after presenter pays tribute

Sinead O’Connor’s brutal message to Piers Morgan has resurfaced after the TV host paid tribute to the late Irish singer on social media.

The iconic Irish singer and activist died on Wednesday (July 26) after being found unresponsive at her home in London. The news was announced by her family and her death is not being treated as suspicious.

Since word of her passing, countless musicians and other faces from the entertainment world have taken to social media to pay their respects to O’Connor.

Among the names include television host and former Good Morning Britain presenter, Piers Morgan. Taking to Twitter, the 58-year-old broadcaster shared an image of him and the singer in the ITV studio.

“RIP Sinead. Wondrously gifted singer, and fiercely intelligent, highly amusing, complex, uncompromising, provocative woman with many demons,” he wrote. “Knew her for 35 years & we had some ferocious spats but also some great Guinness-fuelled make-ups. She was a unique character. Sad day.”

Now, following his post, a message O’Connor addressed to the host has resurfaced, showing her unfiltered response to one of ITV’s producers after they invited her to appear on the show.

In a screenshot of the email response – which first came to light last year – O’Connor refers to the GMB host’s repeated criticisms of Meghan Markle.

“I think it’s best I don’t do your show because of the irresistible temptation I would have to point out that you’re dying to be balls deep in Meghan Markle so bad it’s driven you crazy, and that your dislike of Prince Harry is down to his being balls deep in her ten times a day,” it read.

“It being the case that if you were ever to get near her, which would never happen, you’d last ten seconds: and that would be that for ten days. Sincerely. Sinead O’Connor.”

Alongside her email to Morgan, she also wrote that she hoped that the response would make him “chortle his tea out of his nose” (via Metro UK).

In response to her comments, Morgan later sent a tweet addressed to the singer and activist, writing that it did succeed in making him laugh, and clarified he no longer works on the show. “Hi Sinead, a delight to hear from you,” he wrote. “a) I haven’t hosted a breakfast show for a year b) I actually fancy you, not Meghan. Think it’s the GI Jane hair thing. c) I was so sorry about your son. Hope you’re OK.”

The final part of the message was in reference to the death of her son, Shane, who died by suicide in January last year, following going missing from Newbridge, County Kildare.

Morgan left his role as host for the ITV breakfast show after making controversial remarks about Markle and her interview with Oprah Winfrey.

In other Sinead O’Connor news, earlier this week, it was revealed that the singer had been working on a new album – a follow-up to 2014’s ‘I’m Not Bossy, I’m The Boss’. She also said she hoped to release it early next year.

On-stage tributes have been shared by R.E.M’s Michael Stipe, Tori Amos, P!nk and Brandi Carlile and Fall Out Boy. In an obituary for the singer and activist, NME described O’Connor as “a rare artist who was determined to use her platform for retributive good,” and added that “she will be remembered not just for the beauty of her voice, but for its power.”

Listen to Production From Daft Punk's Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo on Travis Scott's "Utopia" Album

The post-Daft Punk dystopia has been real, but a reemergence from Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo is healing the wounds of the legendary robots’ absence.

Travis Scott has joined forces with de Homem-Christo to produce a song on Utopia, the chart-topping rapper’s fourth full-length album. “Modern Jam” is the fabled Daft Punk member’s first musical composition to release in the wake of their shocking disbandment in 2021.

With its distorted bass, “Modern Jam” is a raw and unapologetic descent into the madcap underbelly of vintage French electronic music. Thanks to its dark and palpitating beat, the track calls to mind Daft Punk’s timeless work producing music for the cybernetic wonderland of Tron: Legacy.

Scott’s star-studded album enlists a who’s who of elite writers and producers. Joining de Homem-Christo as credited artists are Kid Cudi, James Blake, The Weekend, Beyoncé, Sampha, Bad Bunny, Future and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon.

Thomas Bangalter, de Homem-Christo’s former bandmate, also recently released his first Daft-Punk solo project since the split, an orchestral album called Mythologies. Nevertheless, fans holding out hope for a robot renaissance shouldn’t hold their breath after Bangalter poured cold water on the idea of reunion earlier this year.

You can listen to Utopia below.

Kylie Minogue announces Las Vegas residency

Kylie Minogue has announced details of her first Las Vegas residency, which will begin later this year.

  • READ MORE: Kylie Minogue – ‘Disco’ review: a terrific fit for this seasoned showgirl

The Australian singer will take up residency at the Voltaire nightclub at The Venetian from the autumn, which she had teased recently on TV.

“I’ve performed a couple of times at Vegas, but as part of a tour, and particularly when I did the Showgirl tour in 2004 – at that time we said, ‘oh, this feels like a Vegas show’,” she said at a press conference in Los Angeles [via BBC News]. the Australian pop star said at a Los Angeles news conference.

“My team at the time kept saying, ‘Why isn’t this in Vegas? We’ve got to do it at some point’,” she added.

Of what to expect from the show, Kylie added: “I want it to be the kind of essence of what a Kylie show has become, enough glamour and abandon. I’ve got some versions of songs that have not been heard, like reinterpretations of songs, which is exciting. Live bed dances, amazing costumes. That’s the base and then we’ll see what surprises we can come up with.”

She went on: “I was thinking years ago I want to do it when I’m younger like, I don’t want to do it when I’m at the sunset of my career. So, I think I’ve got it right somewhere in the middle where I feel like I’ve earned the right to and have the experience to really enjoy being there.”

Find full details of the residency below.

The 55-year-old is currently promoting her upcoming album, ‘Tension’. Its lead single ‘Padam Padam’ has been climbing the charts in the UK and the US – peaking at number eight on the UK singles charts and number 172 on the Billboard Global chart.

The track has been considered an anthem for this year’s Pride celebrations, especially London Pride. In celebration of the festivities, Ariana Grande lip-synced to ‘Padam Padam’ on her Instagram story while wishing her London fans a “Happy Pride.”

Minogue’s sixth studio album, ‘Tension’, will be released on September 22 via Darenote / BMG. You can pre-save and pre-order the album here.
