Listen to Production From Daft Punk's Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo on Travis Scott's "Utopia" Album

The post-Daft Punk dystopia has been real, but a reemergence from Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo is healing the wounds of the legendary robots’ absence.

Travis Scott has joined forces with de Homem-Christo to produce a song on Utopia, the chart-topping rapper’s fourth full-length album. “Modern Jam” is the fabled Daft Punk member’s first musical composition to release in the wake of their shocking disbandment in 2021.

With its distorted bass, “Modern Jam” is a raw and unapologetic descent into the madcap underbelly of vintage French electronic music. Thanks to its dark and palpitating beat, the track calls to mind Daft Punk’s timeless work producing music for the cybernetic wonderland of Tron: Legacy.

Scott’s star-studded album enlists a who’s who of elite writers and producers. Joining de Homem-Christo as credited artists are Kid Cudi, James Blake, The Weekend, Beyoncé, Sampha, Bad Bunny, Future and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon.

Thomas Bangalter, de Homem-Christo’s former bandmate, also recently released his first Daft-Punk solo project since the split, an orchestral album called Mythologies. Nevertheless, fans holding out hope for a robot renaissance shouldn’t hold their breath after Bangalter poured cold water on the idea of reunion earlier this year.

Kylie Minogue announces Las Vegas residency

Kylie Minogue has announced details of her first Las Vegas residency, which will begin later this year.

  • READ MORE: Kylie Minogue – ‘Disco’ review: a terrific fit for this seasoned showgirl

The Australian singer will take up residency at the Voltaire nightclub at The Venetian from the autumn, which she had teased recently on TV.

“I’ve performed a couple of times at Vegas, but as part of a tour, and particularly when I did the Showgirl tour in 2004 – at that time we said, ‘oh, this feels like a Vegas show’,” she said at a press conference in Los Angeles [via BBC News]. the Australian pop star said at a Los Angeles news conference.

“My team at the time kept saying, ‘Why isn’t this in Vegas? We’ve got to do it at some point’,” she added.

Of what to expect from the show, Kylie added: “I want it to be the kind of essence of what a Kylie show has become, enough glamour and abandon. I’ve got some versions of songs that have not been heard, like reinterpretations of songs, which is exciting. Live bed dances, amazing costumes. That’s the base and then we’ll see what surprises we can come up with.”

She went on: “I was thinking years ago I want to do it when I’m younger like, I don’t want to do it when I’m at the sunset of my career. So, I think I’ve got it right somewhere in the middle where I feel like I’ve earned the right to and have the experience to really enjoy being there.”

Find full details of the residency below.

The 55-year-old is currently promoting her upcoming album, ‘Tension’. Its lead single ‘Padam Padam’ has been climbing the charts in the UK and the US – peaking at number eight on the UK singles charts and number 172 on the Billboard Global chart.

The track has been considered an anthem for this year’s Pride celebrations, especially London Pride. In celebration of the festivities, Ariana Grande lip-synced to ‘Padam Padam’ on her Instagram story while wishing her London fans a “Happy Pride.”

Minogue’s sixth studio album, ‘Tension’, will be released on September 22 via Darenote / BMG. You can pre-save and pre-order the album here.

Listen to James Blake’s rhythmic new single, ‘Loading’

James Blake has released a new single, ‘Loading’, ahead of his upcoming album.

  • READ MORE: James Blake live in London: hometown hero celebrates longevity with a career-spanning set

‘Loading’ serves as the second preview of ‘Playing Robots Into Heaven’, which is due for release on September 8 via Polydor/ Republic. The album will see Blake return to his electronic roots seen within his earlier works, such as 2013’s ‘Overgrown’ and 2010’s ‘Klavierwerke’.

‘Loading’ features rhythmic drum patters, cascading synths and layered vocals that give the tender and delicate track an emotional touch. Listen to ‘Loading’ below.

‘Loading’ follows June’s ‘Big Hammer’, which served as the lead single for James Blake’s forthcoming album.

‘Playing Robots In Heaven’ will be the follow-up to Blake’s acclaimed 2021 LP ‘Friends That Break Your Heart’. In a five-star review of the album, NME wrote: “‘Friends That Break Your Heart’ stuns in how unexpected it is. Blake could have gone anywhere after his blissed-out 2019 LP ‘Assume Form’, and he did: the ‘Before’ and ‘Covers’ EPs followed last winter, and the former reconnected with Blake’s roots in dance music in a full circle moment that spoke to his strength as a vulnerable lyricist and his skill as a producer. ‘Friends…’ takes both sides further, using the disarming heartbreak of its title as the blueprint for further revelations.”

Last month, Blake also announced an international tour later this year, with dates in the UK, Europe and North America. Check out the complete list of tour dates below, and visit here for UK tickets and here for US tickets.

James Blake 2023 tour dates are:

SEPTEMBER

OTR's Sophomore Album is an Introspective Self-Reflection on Our Place in the Universe

Sometimes our best work comes from our toughest struggles. After a three-year hiatus, OTR has overcome a bout of writer’s block to unveil his immaculate sophomore album, Be Quiet, They’re Listening

Be Quiet, They’re Listening is a masterful follow-up to OTR’s debut album, 2020’s Lost At Midnight, expanding on his elegant and thoughtful sound while telling an introspective story. From the unwavering energy of house music to the subtle grooves of indietronica, he’s fearlessly gone where he hasn’t before.

Out now via Astralwerks, the album touches on the loneliness found within our interpersonal relationships and in relation to the vast expanse of the universe. An intimate glimpse into OTR’s own headspace during trying times, it explores existentialism, purpose and connection.

Elegantly weaving between genres, Be Quiet, They’re Listening is OTR’s most diverse project to date. “In The Summer” serves as its heart, encapsulating every aspect of the message OTR wants to convey. Beautiful yet haunting, the track is carried by an intoxicating beat and ethereal vocal sample that calls attention to the bittersweet feelings that embody the final days of summer.

“The album is a reflection of a time when I had to learn how to put my life back together,” says OTR. “I’m proud of how it turned out and hope people can find some comfort, inspiration and motivation while listening to it. ‘In The Summer’ to me feels like a combination of these feelings all wrapped up in one song, so I’m happy it’s debuting with the album as a whole.”

You can listen to Be Quiet, They’re Listening below and find the album on streaming platforms here.

Meisner was excluded from the Eagles’ reunion tour in 1994 but appeared beside the band in 1998 for the band’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. They performed ‘Take It Easy’ and ‘Hotel California’ together. Steve Aoki and Showtek Team Up for Another Festival Banger “Mirror Mirror”

Steve Aoki and Showtek are back with another massive, festival ready single, “Mirror Mirror.” Four years after teaming up on “Rave,” these two legendary artists are back with a darker techno single. Just because they’re experimenting with a new sound, however, doesn’t mean “Mirror Mirror” doesn’t go just as hard. In fact, you can hear a lot of Aoki and Showtek trademarks in the track. The plugin may be different, but the rhythms are undeniably Aoki and Showtek.

Along with the stellar production, we get breathy vocals from Jem Cooke that perfectly encapsulate the underground warehouse vibe of the song. She also might get the line of the year, “Mirror mirror, who’s the baddest of the them all?” Despite the darker opening part of the song, the final drop is exploding with all of the energy of a cake hitting one’s face.

“‘Mirror Mirror’ is more than just a song; it’s a sonic fusion of our creative energies, a testament to our shared passion for pushing boundaries and delivering an unforgettable experience,” Steve Aoki says. “Brace yourselves for a high-octane journey that will shatter mirrors and ignite souls on the dancefloor.”

Watch Fall Out Boy cover ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ in tribute to Sinead O’Connor

Fall Out Boy have covered Sinead O’Connor‘s ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ in honour of the late Irish singer at their most recent gig.

At their show on July 26 in Atlanta, Georgia, frontman Patrick Stump took to the stage to play the 1990 hit on the piano. He played a partial cover of the track, turning the ballad into a piano-accompanied solo.

Stump has previously covered the critically acclaimed 90s anthem, but the rendition at the band’s latest ‘So Much For (Tour) Dust’ show was a tribute to the late Irish singer. O’Connor had passed earlier in the day, aged 56.

Tributes have been pouring in for the singer from fans and celebrities across social media.

REM frontman Michael Stipe simply put “There are no words”, while legendary photographer Anton Corbijn wrote: “Very sad news, can’t quite believe that this beautiful person with this angelic voice has gone. RIP dear Sinead.”

Rapper Ice-T tweeted a tribute to her sharing: “Respect to Sinead … She stood for something … Unlike most people … Rest Easy..”

Red Hot Chili Peppers’ bassist Flea wrote: “For all us street kids, for all us wildlings, when Sinéad got huge, it felt like one of us made it. It was incredible. I’m not trying to compare myself or anyone else to Sinéad, she is one of a kind, but that’s what it felt like to me. Like she was one of us. She was like Billie Holiday to me. All her pain, all her beauty, those incredible songs. She deserves sainthood.”

Footage of O’Connor’s final performance has also re-circulated following the singer’s death.

In other Fall Out Boy News, the band are currently on their North American tour. Their next stop is on July 29 at the Pine Knob Music Theatre in Clarkson, Michigan. Visit here for any last minute tickets.
