Harry Styles co-writer Mitch Rowland announces debut album ‘Come June’, shares title track

Harry Styles co-writer Mitch Rowland has announced his debut album, ‘Come June’, and shared the LP’s title track.

As per a press release, Rowland explained that the idea of a solo album came about in 2019, with the title track being the first to be demoed before it was set aside for many months while he was on tour with Styles.

“We were near the end of making this album, and this song came back to me,” recalls Rowland in a press release. “It wasn’t part of the plan because of how it was originally recorded with harder drums and bigger guitars – I never pictured it with the rest of the songs. But after some re-approaching and re-recording everything, this song started to mean something again. I guess you could say this is a song for Sarah [Jones, drummer for Styles and Rowland’s wife].”

Rowland met Styles back in 2016 when he was working as a dishwasher at a pizza joint. He was given the chance to try his hand at writing with Styles on his 2017 self-titled debut.

Their partnership led to the creation of many of the pop singer’s hits including ‘Watermelon Sugar’ and his Grammy Award-winning LP ‘Harry’s House’.

The singer and guitarist also joined Styles’ touring band where he met drummer Sarah Jones, his fellow bandmate turned wife.

Rowland’s debut LP ‘Come June’ is set for release on October 6 via Giant Music/Erskine. Pre-order the album here. The LP was produced and mixed by Rob Schnapf, who also played guitar alongside Mitch Rowland, and engineered by Matt Schuessler. The keyboards and bass were by Jerry Borgé and Matt Schuessler respectively.

‘Medium Low’
‘Here Comes the Comeback’

My Chemical Romance’s Frank Iero claims LEGO is demanding LS Dunes remove music video

Frank Iero has released a statement claiming Lego called for the removal of an L.S. Dunes music video that features the toy bricks.

According to Iero, the toy company’s lawyers have called the band’s label, Fantasy Records, to ask them to “take down” the band’s video for the track ‘Grey Veins’ which features Lego figures throughout.

Iero, of My Chemical Romance fame and one of the guitarists in L.S. Dunes, took to his official Twitter page to share a statement about LEGO’s legal action: “Dear @lego, why are you having your lawyers call my record label (@fantasyrecords) and demand we take down the @LSDunes music video we made for our song ‘Grey Veins’?”

He continued: “As a card carrying Lego VIP and lifelong creator and builder I am hurt and wildly confused. I have spent more hours than I can calculate, not to mention thousands upon thousands of dollars over the years, buying and building your sets as a child, a teenager, a semi-adult, and now as a dad who builds with his son, an eleven year old who loves Legos more than anyone I have ever met, and even made us dedicate a room in our house to building them. My family and I have vacationed at Legoland and my other band [My Chemical Romance] has been voted into your Lego Ideas program by 10k supporters as a potential future build set.”

“I love your company because you gave us bricks and taught us we didn’t have to accept the world as it was, we could see what was possible and build it ourselves. I have taken that inspiration and created a universe of my own and now you want to squash it, why?” he added.

Iero wrapped up his statement by saying: “Let Creators Create. Have your people stop calling my people. Spread kindness, spread the creativity, spread the word. Leggo My Lego.”

Along with the statement, the guitarist shared photos of his Lego VIP card and photos from Legoland as proof of his dedication to the tiny bricks.

In other L.S. Dunes news, the band are currently on tour across North America. Their next show is on July 28 at Washington’s in Fort Collins, Colorado. Visit here for more tour dates and tickets.

‘Oppenheimer’ style was inspired by David Bowie during his Thin White Duke phase

Cillian Murphy‘s wardrobe in Oppenheimer was partly inspired by David Bowie during his Thin White Duke era.

  • READ MORE: Cillian Murphy on becoming Oppenheimer: “I didn’t go out much – I didn’t socialise”

The actor – who plays “father of the atomic bomb” J. Robert Oppenheimer in the new Christopher Nolan-directed epic – explained that the music icon provided inspiration for the clothing style worn by his character in the film, which came out Friday (July 21).

“We worked very closely with our costume designer to design the clothes,” Murphy told MTV Movies. “And particularly, I wanted to get his silhouette. He was very fragile, he was very, very slim and I wanted to get that silhouette right.”

“Chris sent me a couple of shots a day of Bowie, certain periods in Bowie’s career, like Thin White Duke and around ‘Young Americans’ time,” Murphy added.

The Thin White Duke was one of Bowie’s many personas, which he adopted from 1975 to 1976. His ninth studio album ‘Young Americans’ came out in March 1975.

“He had these massive trousers and he was so emaciated but so fucking cool,” Murphy continued. “So we used that, weirdly, for some of Oppenheimer’s trousers.”

The actor has opened up in other interviews about how he attempted to capture the physicality of the American physicist by losing weight for the role.

“I love acting with my body, and Oppenheimer had a very distinct physicality and silhouette, which I wanted to get right,” Murphy told The New York Times.

“I had to lose quite a bit of weight, and we worked with the costume and tailoring; he was very slim, almost emaciated, existed on martinis and cigarettes,” Murphy said. “He had these really bright eyes and I wanted to give him this wide-eyed look, so we worked on his silhouette and expressions a lot before starting.”

Emily Blunt, who plays Oppenheimer’s wife Kitty in the film, said Murphy regularly skipped cast dinners because of the “monumental” pressure he was under. “Of course he didn’t want to [eat] with us,” she told People.

Speaking to NME recently, Murphy said that he likes playing characters that are “unknowable, ambiguous, kind of enigmatic”, adding: “To me that’s human life: the knotty, weird grey areas… A good man’s life is wholly uninteresting.”

NME described Oppenheimer in a five-star review as a “mind-blowing biopic hits like a bomb to the brain”.

Meanwhile, the ‘David Bowie Is’ archive – featuring more than 80,000 items from across Bowie’s 60-year career, including fashion – is set to be made into permanent UK venue by V&A.

Denzel Curry Says He Wants to Experiment More With Electronic Music

One of the brightest minds in hip-hop may soon swerve into the electronic music lane.

Denzel Curry sent ripples over the weekend, taking to Twitter to reveal his interest in a musical pivot. After a fan asked him if there are any genres of music with which he wants to experiment “in the near future,” Curry replied, “Electronic.”

It didn’t take long for a deluge of producers to chime in and shoot their shot with the prolific “Clout Cobain” rapper, like PEEKABOO, IMANU and dubstep icon Flux Pavilion. Renowned bass music artist Eprom even slid into the thread with a custom beat.

However, the only response Curry retweeted was from Ekali, with whom he collaborated on 2017’s “Babylon.” It’s not yet clear whether or not a follow-up is in the works.

EDM collaborations are few and far between for Curry, but he’s certainly no stranger to the space. He’s released music with a handful of prominent artists, including Flying Lotus (“Black Balloons Reprise“), influential trap producer and TNGHT member Lunice (“Distrust“), and house music stars Destructo (“Bandz“) and BIJOU (“FTP“).

Curry’s comments arrive during an exciting time for the collision course of hip-hop and electronic music. Having released two albums heavily influenced by house music, Drake and Beyoncé are just two of a laundry list of contemporary superstars to adopt the genre over the course of the last year.

After collaborating with Marshmello on the hit-making producer’s Grammy-nominated Shockwave LP, Megan Thee Stallion dabbled in dance music on her own album, last summer’s Traumazine. Then came Frank Ocean, who released an electronica-fueled episode of his “Homer Radio” show, and Akon, who revealed that his fifth studio album—tentatively titled Akonic—will incorporate EDM.

Doja Cat loses 180k Instagram followers and deletes Threads after lashing out at fans

Doja Cat has deleted her Threads and lost 180,000 followers on Instagram after criticising her fans in a series of posts.

The LA rapper – who is known for being outspoken on her social media pages – posted a series of tweets lashing out at her fans earlier this week, particularly aimed at fan accounts who refer to themselves as ‘kittenz’.

Now, as reported by Hype Auditor, the musician has lost over 180,000 followers on her Instagram account over the last four weeks. She has also deleted the Threads section of the account, and numerous fan pages have deactivated their accounts.

The three major accounts noted as having deleted their page are The Kittens Room, Doja HQ, and Doja Cat News.

One of the now-deleted tweets Doja Cat – whose real name is Amala Ratna Zandile Dlamini – shared read: “My fans don’t get to name themselves shit. If you call yourself a ‘kitten’ or fucking ‘kittenz’ that means you need to get off your phone and get a job and help your parents with the house.”

When one fan pointed out the hypocrisy of the statement – highlighting how the musician was the one who came up with the term ‘kittenz’ – Doja Cat responded, stating that she made up her stage name when she was “an alcoholic teen.”

When another fan asked her what she should “change her name to” since she no longer likes the term ‘kitten’, the rapper replied, writing: “Just delete the entire account and rethink everything it’s never too late.”

Before deleting the slew of tweets, she also called another fan “creepy” after seeing their Twitter handle was her government name, Amala Zandile Dlamini.

The backlash she is receiving from fans comes ahead of her upcoming 24-date ‘Scarlet’ tour. Her first-ever headlining arena tour, the dates include gigs all around North America with Ice Spice and Doechii as support acts. It kicks off Halloween night at Chase Center in San Francisco, remaining tickets are available here.

This isn’t the first time in 2023 that Doja Cat has stirred controversy after sharing her thoughts on Twitter. Back in April, the singer divided opinion after commenting on the new Twitter Blue scheme where users pay to verify their accounts and earn the famous blue tick. “Having a blue tick now means there’s a higher chance that you’re a complete loser and that you’re desperate for validation from famous people,” she said.

In other news, last month she released a new track ‘Attention’ – the lead single taken from her upcoming album.

Earlier this year, she teased her fourth studio album, which was originally called ‘Hellmouth’. Back in May, she confirmed that her “rap only” album will be called ‘First Of All’. In the same month, she called her previous albums “cash-grabs.”

LP Giobbi Drops Eclectic Remix Package for Debut Album, "Light Place"

Two months after the release of her hotly anticipated debut album Light Places, LP Giobbi has delivered an eclectic remix package.

Light Places Remixes offers nine imaginative, house-centric reworks. Giobbi has hand-picked a sundry of talented artists including DESIREE, Le Chev, Krystal Klear, Chloé Caillet, DJ Tennis, Joseph Ashworth, Joe Goddard, Anden and VENGA for the bundle, resulting in a diverse array of new music that gives each track a fresh feel.

Tennis and Ashworth did a phenomenal job placing their distinct spin on both “Can’t Let You Go” and “Georgia.” The former has been turned into a more club-friendly track including an uptick in tempo while the latter is a stripped-down version of the original complete with a much darker tone. DESIREE’s remix of  “All I Need” is just as captivating, subduing the upbeat house sounds of the original and replacing it with colorful piano riffs and rhythmic percussion.

Following the release of Light Places, Giobbi made her Defected Records debut with “Giodisco” and released a tasteful remix of Röyksopp and Maurissa Rose’s “Feel It.” In addition to a heap of new music, the FEMME HOUSE founder recently had a remarkable performance at the Oregon Country Fair and is currently on her “Dead House” tour.

Demi Lovato reveals struggles with vision and hearing impairment following 2018 overdose

Demi Lovato has revealed that she struggles with both visual and hearing impairments, caused by an overdose in 2018.

The pop star and former Disney Channel actress appeared on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live earlier this month, and opened up about her previous battle with addiction and the consequences it had on her health.

Speaking with the host, Lovato confessed that while she is a strong believer in having no regrets, the “closest thing” she comes to regretting is the near-fatal overdose she had five years ago – which left her with various long-term issues.

“I wouldn’t change my path because I don’t have any regrets… [But] the closest thing that I get to a regret is when I overdosed,” she began. “I wish somebody had told me, one, that I was beautiful, because I didn’t believe it, and two, I wish that someone would’ve told me that if you just sit with the pain, it passes.”

“That overdose caused me a lot of – it actually caused a disability,” she explained. “I have vision impairment and hearing impairment to this day,” she added, later admitting that she doesn’t drive anymore due to “blind spots in [her] vision”.

Later in the discussion, however, the 30-year-old singer shared her positive outlook on her health issues and said that she has begun to view the impairments as a “daily constant reminder” to continue her journey into sobriety.

“Anytime I look at something – like, I have blind spots in my vision when I look at your face – it’s a constant reminder to stay on the right path, because I never want that to happen again,” she stated.

This isn’t the first time that Lovato has opened up about her struggle with addiction, nor her near-fatal overdose in 2018. She also shed light on the incident in her 2021 YouTube documentary series, Dancing with the Devil.

In the series, she admitted that in the weeks coming up to her overdose, she had become addicted to meth, heroin, and crack cocaine. She also said that she was, in hindsight, amazed that she didn’t overdose sooner.

“I’m surprised I didn’t OD that night,” she shared in the docuseries. “I just went to town. I went on a shopping spree. That night I did drugs I’d never done before. I’d never done meth before, I tried meth. I mixed it with [ecstasy], with coke, weed, alcohol, oxycontin. And that alone should have killed me.”

The overdose instead happened two weeks later, after she began experimenting with heroin and crack cocaine. In the YouTube series, she also confessed that she suffered three strokes and a heart attack during the overdose, and was left with permanent brain damage.

As reported by The Independent, the vocalist is now fully sober as of 2021, following an initial adoption of a “California sober” approach– a lifestyle that allows marijuana and alcohol provided it is in moderation.

In other Lovato news, earlier this month the singer announced a new album, ‘Revamped’, which will reimagine hits from her career as rock songs. The latest single to be released from the forthcoming LP is titled ‘Sorry Not Sorry (Rock Version)’, and sees her team up with Guns N’ Roses icon Slash.

Two other tracks, ‘Heart Attack (Rock Version)’ and ‘Cool For The Summer (Rock Version)’ have previously been shared from the project.
