Listen to Spoon cover Tom Petty’s ‘Breakdown’ and ‘A Face In The Crowd’


Spoon have shared covers of two Tom Petty classics on digital streaming platforms for the first time.

The Austin band initially covered the 1976 song ‘Breakdown’ for the late rock star’s 70th Birthday Bash concert last year. The original track was the first single to be taken from Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers’ self-titled debut album.

In December, Spoon also put their own spin on ‘A Face In The Crowd’, which featured on Petty’s debut solo album ‘Full Moon Fever’ in 1989. That cover was first broadcast as part of Jack Antonoff’s annual Ally Coalition Talent Show.

Both covers were tracked live last year at the Catacomb in Austin and are now available to listen to and watch on all digital streaming platforms. Watch Spoon’s performances of both tracks below now.

Petty died on October 2, 2017 at the age of 66. A coroner later ruled that his death was accidental and caused by mixed drug toxicity, which stemmed from the painkillers he was taking to help with emphysema, knee problems and a fractured hip.

In September, Spoon shared a stripped-down new version of their song ‘Rainy Taxi’. The original version of the song appeared on their 2014 album ‘They Want My Soul’. Proceeds from the reworked edition were given to the Austin Community Foundation – a charity supporting causes in the Texan band’s home city.

The band have also been steadily reissuing much of their back catalogue as part of their ‘Slay On Cue’ retrospective series. The next album to be reissued will be 2005’s ‘Gimme Fiction’, which will arrive on March 26.

Wuki Gives A Track-By-Track Breakdown Of His Debut Album “WukiWorld”


It’s been 10 months since Wuki first dropped “Chicken Wang,” the debut single from his then forthcoming debut album, WukiWorld. Now, the project is finally out in full and it’s a wild ride from start to finish. Spanning a brisk 10 tracks and 30 mins, but featuring names like Diplo, Smokepurpp, Shaq and Scrilla King, Softest Hard, and more, it’s long enough to capture your attention and short enough that you don’t have to feel guilty about listening to it back to back two, maybe three times.

Though styles in individual tracks vary, as they should, they all tie back to the original Wuki ethos. That is — fat club bangers with an edge and always an element of surprise.

Wuki says about the album, “After an entire year and a few delays, I’m SOO stoked to release my debut album. I want this body of work to show all the weird corners of my brain and how I love to approach music from a million angles while still maintaining my sound.”

Before the album released, we got in contact with Wuki and had him give us a track-by-track breakdown of WukiWorld, so you can read along below while listening to get a full idea of his thought process behind each and every track, even if it’s just, “I wanted to make a banger.”

Love 2.0

I wanted to kick-off my album with something out of the ordinary for me. I normally don’t use a lot of melodies in my music, but I made this little vocal loop and it just sounded perfect. This song is all about conquering fear with love. We all need a little more love in the world, and although this might be a little corny for me, I felt it was a great way to start the album.

Chicken Wang (ft. Diplo & Snappy Jit)

When I’m making music, I’m always trying to make something that will surprise people, but still get them dancing. I’m really influenced by Miami bass, so I wanted to showcase that here. I love how this came out – I think it’s really unique but still very digestible and dancey.

Bad Girl Drumma (with Juvenile)

This track means SOOO much to me because I am a huge Juvenile fan. I wanted to make something that had a bit of New Orlean’s bounce but still had the Wuki sound. I think I nailed it!

Hey Ladies (ft. Yung Baby Tate & Stoppa)

This is my attempt at a pop song! I’ve always struggled to make a typical pop/vocal track, so I knew I had to come at it in a different way. I wanted to make it fun, catchy, and familiar.

Birdz (with Smokepurpp)

I knew the album needed at least one banger on it. I’m very inspired by all types of rap music, so I was so stoked when I heard Purpp was on board. He crushed these verses and I think it’s an awesome mix of rap/EDM.

I See You (ft. Stoppa)

This song is a bit more conceptual. I always wanted to make a track that is basically a long build into a drop. It’s almost like an experiment for the dance floor.

SHUTUP (with Shaq & Scrilla King)

Not much to say about this one other than the point was to make a banger. Shaq was playing this out before quarantine, which was really a surreal experience.

I’m High

So one night, I got super baked and I made that little loop you hear in the beginning. I wanted to make something super trippy and relaxing but also funny.

Family (with Softest Hard)

For some reason, this song reminds me of a bunch of people in the UK moshing. I was struggling to finish this one, so I asked Softest Hard to add some elements. She really brought it to the next level and I love how it came out.

Tell The World About Me (ft. Sebastian)

This is a song about loss and perseverance. I lost my mom to pancreatic cancer seven years ago, and it really shaped who I am today. I’ve never been the best with lyrics, so I asked my friend Sebastian to help out. I told him what I was going for and he came up with this really fast. I think he absolutely nailed it and I couldn’t be happier with how this one came out. I was literally in tears making the final version of this song.

Prolific UK producer Drinks On Me takes to tastemaker label Noir Sur Blanc for his third release of 2021. A warm, euphoric blend of UK flavored garage and house, Drinks On Me debuts his “Movies,” out now via the French imprint.

A reflective ode to love, “Movies” was born out of gray, reminiscent night of lockdown. With a design principle of that being told through the perspective of the subconscious mind. I wanted to show how we usually remember past relationships as if they were perfect. The idea of our minds creating a false reality that we could no longer distinguish was the motivation on creating the visuals. I wanted it to be the cerebral and for the viewer to ask questions while also being intrigued. With the final shot revealing that it was a fading memory and our protagonist is left there to deal with the reality.”

Drinks On Me solidifies his standing as one of house music’s most innovative acts by constantly breaking out of genre-typical constraints. Always fusing house music mastery with a knack for all things UK garage, Drinks On Me seemingly outdoes himself with every new release. Slipknot’s Corey Taylor to appear on Comic Relief livestream marathon


Slipknot’s Corey Taylor will be a guest on a Comic Relief livestream marathon, which is taking place tonight (March 12).

The team behind the award-winning comedy podcast No Such Thing As A Fish are hosting a one-off, 20-hour special in aid of Comic Relief.

A total of 35 guests will join the NSTAAF team for 35 minutes each over the course of the broadcast. Taylor is set to appear on the livestream at 2:40am GMT, while other guests still to come also include Carey Mulligan, Armando Iannucci, and Richard Curtis.

“Stoked to be a part of @nosuchthing’s 20-hour LIVE Comic Relief marathon this weekend,” Taylor said on Twitter yesterday (March 11). “I’ll be one of 35 guests chatting for 35 minutes each throughout the broadcast.”

 

“We’ve spent seven years messing around and only recording for an hour or two at a time,” the No Such Thing As A Fish team said in a press release. “This year we are thrilled to be pushing ourselves to the absolute limit in the service of one of the best causes around. We aim to read out every fact in the world at least once.”

Meanwhile, Taylor has discussed the direction of Slipknot’s next album, saying the band are “entering a realm that we’ve never been [to]”.

“Me and Clown have talked about something really, really cool, if we can pull it off,” he told Matt Pinfield of 95.5 KLOS. “There’s a chance that it could be conceptual — if we can really do it right.

“I mean, the music is brilliant. It expands on what we did with [2019’s] ’We Are Not Your Kind’ — it kind of blossoms from there — but the great thing is, it’s got not only that, but it’s got everything that you would want from a Slipknot project; there’s the heavy stuff, there’s the dark stuff, there’s the melodic stuff, there’s the weird stuff. We have so many different flavours that we can play with that, now, at this point, it’s just us kind of mixing and matching and seeing what excites us.”

Moore Kismet Drops Hyperemotive New Single, “Vendetta For Cupid” with TYGKO, From Album


Moore Kismet’s debut album will, so far, be the most personal piece of work they’ve ever written, so it’s unsurprising to hear about songs like “Vendetta For Cupid” with TYGKO as part of the project. Inspired by real life events involving personal and emotional abuse at the hands of someone whom they once considered a friend, the song’s lyrical content coupled with the disjointed rhythm, shimmering synths, and chopped vocals convey an absolutely shattered mind that is coming to peace with reality.

Moore Kismet says of the track, “’Vendetta For Cupid’ is one of the more recent tracks that was completed for the album, as I started it towards the close of 2020. I started this song the night that I had spoken out against my abuser publicly. It was originally intended to be a collaboration with a friend of mine, but fell through, so I decided to write the rest of the track myself. Kevante (TYGKO) and I met through the same forum that Lunamatic and I met by way of a mural friend of ours. The story that he told with his lyricism perfectly captured everything I could ever say about that person and what they did to me.”

Along with the “Vendetta For Cupid,” two other surprise singles arrived — “Flight of the Superiority Complex” with liam ello and “Shadow Soldier” with Lunamatic.

Celebrate the 20th anniversary of Daft Punk’s seminal ‘Discovery’ with Spotify’s new ‘Enhanced Playlist’

It has been 20 years since Daft Punk‘s landmark Discovery LP arrived and unequivocally changed the course of dance music. With the world still largely feeling the void left in the wake of the duo’s recent disbandment, a spirited celebration of the Androids’ beloved sophomore studio album is in order. Luckily, Spotify has it covered with the launch of a new “Enhanced Playlist” that features a wealth of newly unearthed Daft Punk iconography.

With the use of Spotify’s Canvas and Storylines functions, fans can surf through previously unseen concept art and storyboards from Discovery’s companion film, Interstella 5555, short clips from the film, and more all packed into the Discovery – Enhanced Playlist. 

Widely lauded as one of the greatest dance records of all time, the Discovery phase marks the beginning of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo’s robotic alter-egos, and thus, the emergence of the most ubiquitously recognizable, iconic figureheads in all of electronic music. The album was a critical and commercial success and still stands as a paragon of perfection to an entire generation two decades later.
