Matt Berry teases new track ‘Aboard’ from upcoming album ‘Blue Elephant’

Matt Berry has shared a brief teaser of his new track ‘Aboard’, which is taken from his forthcoming seventh studio album ‘Blue Elephant’.

The latest LP from the singer and comedy star will arrive via Acid Jazz on May 14, marking his tenth year with the celebrated label.

On ‘Aboard’, Berry offers a hint at the darkened and mysterious psychedelia within the record which, according to a press release, offers “a dizzying trip through an idiosyncratically British love of Psych, Freakbeat, Acid Rock and late ’60s pop”.

You can check out the tracklist in full below.

Side One
1 Aboard
2 Summer Sun
3 Safe Passage
4 Now Disappear
5 Alone
6 Invisible
7 Blues Inside Me
8 I Cannot Speak

It was recently confirmed that Berry will return as sitcom character Steven Toast, first seen in Channel 4’s Toast of London, in the new six-part BBC series Toast of Tinseltown.

A release date is yet to be announced, but production is set to begin later this year with “a mix of new and returning cast members”.

In a statement, Berry said: “I couldn’t be more thrilled to not only be working with Arthur and the rest of the Toast family again, but to also be taking the show to the BBC, which I know Toast himself would very much approve.”

Celebrate International Women’s Day by Exploring These Empowering Artists [PLAYLIST]

It’s International Women’s Day and there’s no better way to celebrate women in music than with a massive playlist dedicated to the queens among us.

With a swarm of “Happy International Women’s Day” posts overwhelming our feeds today (in the best possible way), the goal here was to have something to add to the conversation and bring attention to as many female/femme-identifying artists we could in a single afternoon.

Our playlist represents women in electronic/dance music — DJs, producers, singers and songwriters across various styles and genres. These creatives have pushed boundaries and taken risks, blazing an empowering path for women everywhere to express themselves fearlessly, and we’re forever grateful.

Many of the names on this playlist are instantly recognizable — Alison Wonderland, Nervo, Charlotte de Witte, SOPHIEAnna Lunoe, REZZ, Mija, Whipped Cream, UNIIQU3, Nora en Pure, TOKiMONSTA, CloZee and the list goes on. And we spent just as much time adding next up artists including JEANIE, Rossy, Nostalgix, Risik, Lizzy Jane, and so many more — as well as those who are just starting to make names for themselves.

To include all the inspirational and influential women in dance music is near impossible, but here’s a start. Let us know who we missed and we’ll be sure to add them, because everyday should be Women’s Day.

Watch Doja Cat do the silhouette challenge in ‘Streets’ video

Doja Cat has released the music video for her track ‘Streets’, taken from 2019 album ‘Hot Pink’.

READ MORE: Doja Cat – ‘Hot Pink’ review: the viral ‘Mooo!’ star proves she’s a mainstream rap contender

The video opens with a driver causing a traffic jam as he gets mesmerised by Doja as a mannequin in the window. Then, she pulls off her own rendition of the silhouette challenge as seen on TikTok, where she dances against a deep red light.

She also dances in the on top of a car in front of zombie-like men and pulls the aforementioned driver into her literal web among other dark scenes.

The viral challenge actually uses a mashup of ‘Streets’ and Paul Anka’s 1959 track ‘Put Your Head On My Shoulder’, contributing to the song’s recent popularity. This is just the latest instance of Doja paying homage to TikTok challenges in a video, after performing the viral choreography made to her song ‘Say So’ in its respective visuals.

Watch the video for ‘Streets’ below:

Despite being released in late 2019, ‘Streets’ marks the seventh song from ‘Hot Pink’ to receive a music video, following ‘Juicy’, ‘Rules’, ‘Bottom Bitch’, ‘Cyber Sex’, ‘Say So’ and ‘Like That’.

Prior to the rise in popularity of ‘Streets’ and its associated TikTok challenge, Doja Cat had actually sampled the same Paul Anka song in her 2018 track ‘Freak’, which received an official release on streaming services in August of last year.

As for the follow-up to ‘Hot Pink’, Doja revealed in September that it is apparently finished.

“It’s all ready. I hate that I’m holding on to it right now,” she said.

“…I see everybody is like, ‘Put it out, put it out’, and I’m like, ‘I would’, like, you have to plan things accordingly and there’s a lot going on.”

2021 has seen Doja Cat team up with a variety of collaborators, including Saweetie for ‘Best Friend’ and Ariana Grande with Megan Thee Stallion for a remix of ’34+35′.

QUIX – Gunning For You (feat. Nevve) (Martron Remix)

Martron turns up the heat with his melodic and massive new take on “Gunning For You” originally QUIX and Nevve.  Keeping in enough production elements to not lose a sense of original, Martron lets the cat out of the bag in particular through the buildups and drops with this remix. Martron (real name Marlon Nigro) is a New York on the rise and showed signs at a very young age that his love for music was boundless. Growing up a classically trained musician, it wasn’t until early in his senior year of high school that he discovered his fondness for electronic music. Listen to his remix below now and keep a tab on the rising talent!

Brittany Howard shares cover of ‘(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher & Higher’

Brittany Howard has released a cover of Jackie Wilson’s ‘(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher & Higher’.

Howard’s cover remains fairly loyal to Wilson’s original version, which was released in the late ’60s. The new cover was recorded exclusively for Amazon Music and is only available through the streaming service.

Listen to the cover below:

Howard’s cover of ‘Higher & Higher’ follows her rendition of Nina Simone’s ‘Revolution’, which she performed in November for Colbert.

Howard released her debut solo album, ‘Jaime’, back in 2019. The record earned his five nominations at this year’s Grammy Awards, including for Best Alternative Music Album and Best Rock Song. She will also be performing at the ceremony on March 14.

‘Jaime’ is named after Howard’s late sister, who died from cancer as a teenager. Speaking to NME, Howard explained how it was Jaime who taught her piano and encouraged her.

“She was the beginning of everything for me,” Howard said, “she definitely trained me up and taught me about songs.

“She’d be like, ‘Brittany, if we’re going to write a song, you’ve got to have a verse and you’ve got to have a chorus.’ We were little kids! Seeing our names together on the album is appropriate – I feel like we did it together.”
