SOPHIE’s girlfriend Evita Manji speaks out: ‘I can feel her being happy’

Evita Manji, girlfriend of SOPHIE, has shared a heartfelt message to social media speaking to the Grammy-nominated experimental pop artist’s recent death in a fatal accident on January 30.

On Instagram, she wrote,

“I guess this is what it’s like to wake up from a dream, because my life with you felt like the best dream Sophie, Everyday was an endless stream of love and acceptance, a journey to know you deeper and deeper.

“Today I lost my everything …I can feel your energy everywhere around and inside me , you’re guiding me through this and calm me down like you would always do. Every particle of me will always have a piece of you…

“Sophie was a real angel, she was the sweetest, the kindest to every soul and everything around her. A very very special creature …. She was so curious about what is out there in the cosmos , I can feel her being happy and excited to explore the unknown. She’s an immaterial girl now, she can be anything she wants… and she is in everything around us….”

Manji further commented about the accident to MailOnline, stating that the Scottish musician was in the company of two friends at the time of incident. She also spoke with SOPHIE after the artist fell into an open space of a three-story building in central Athens while attempting to take a photograph of the full moon. Manji said,

“I managed to tell her I love her and to tell her to keep fighting. She was my life. We were supposed to get married.”

Manji said it took the authorities and fire services close to 90 minutes to extract and transport her to the Athen’s Attikon Hospital where she fatally succumbed to her injuries at around 4 am in the morning. Foul play has been ruled out in the investigation.

SOPHIE shifted electronic music forward by infusing pop and cutting-edge sound design, inspiring many in the experimental genre, and her legacy will be live on as a one-of-a-kind talent. A multitude of artists have paid homage to the influential electronic and trans producer amid news of the visionary’s death including Rihanna, Vince Staples, Dillon Francis, Sam Smith, Charli XCX, and more.

Morgan Wallen dropped by Big Loud Records after using racial slur

Morgan Wallen has been suspended indefinitely by his label Big Loud Records after video emerged of him this week using a racial slur.

The country singer has also been dropped by a number of radio stations after TMZ released footage of him using a racist slur last weekend.

Wallen told the outlet that he was “embarrassed and sorry”, adding: “I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back. There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologise for using the word. I promise to do better.”

Wallen’s label Big Loud confirmed yesterday (February 3) that they had dropped the singer, tweeting a statement which read: “In the wake of recent events, Big Loud Records has made the decision to suspend Morgan Wallen’s recording contract indefinitely.”

The label added that they had the support of Republic Records, which co-released Wallen’s recent ‘Dangerous: The Double Album’, who agreed that “such behaviour will not be tolerated”.

Wallen has not responded to being dropped by Big Loud.

The broadcaster Country Music Television has also condemned the singer, saying in a statement: “After learning of Morgan Wallen’s racial slur late last night, we are in the process of removing his appearances from all our platforms.

“We do not tolerate or condone words and actions that are in direct opposition to our core values that celebrate diversity, equity and inclusion.”

The Academy of Country Music, meanwhile, said that it was halting Wallen’s “potential involvement and eligibility” for this year’s ACM Awards.

“As a result of this unprecedented situation, the Academy will be reviewing our awards eligibility and submission process, ensuring our nominees consistently reflect the Academy’s integrity.”

Back in October, Wallen’s scheduled appearance on Saturday Night Live was cancelled at the last minute after footage emerged of him breaking Covid-19 rules by partying with fans without wearing a mask.

Following respective ORBIT: AMPLIFY playlists from Kyle Kinch, DJ 4rain, Whethan, Cuppy, CeCe Rogers, Martin Badder, Loud Luxury, Akira Akira, Anabel Englund, Brando, Major Lazer‘s Walshy Fire, Crazy Cousinz, Party Favor, VNCCII, and Kevin McKay, Bob Moses step up to curate Dancing Astronaut‘s ORBIT: AMPLIFY playlist for the week of February 1.

NATHASSIA & D3FAI Drop Two Sonic Renditions of ‘In My Head’

Multicultural ambassador, DJ, producer and vocalist NATHASSIA (pronounced Natasha) has released her second collaboration alongside Argentinian big-room producer D3FAI. Two renditions of their latest track “In My Head” are available on all platforms now via London based label Archangel UK.

Having seen great success via its initial Beatport release, “In My Head” broke the top 10 on the platform’s big-room charts.  Expanding upon the foundation built on in their prior collaboration “Change The World”, which saw landmark support from KISS FM, was playlisted on Club MTV, MTV Dance InternationalClubland TV and even reached the MTV UK Top 20, the synergy the two stumbled upon paved way for another striking intersection between NATHASSIA’s vocal talent and D3FAI’s no-nonsense approach to the classic big-room sound. Airy, light and electrifying, NATHASSIA’s vocal work in “In My Head” weaves soothing sunshine through the fabric of an otherwise heavy big-room dance track, creating a contrast that compliments the other harmoniously.

You can stream both the big room and techno edit of “In My Head” on Spotify below!

Steven Wilson apologises to Wolfgang Van Halen following Eddie Van Halen comments

Steven Wilson has apologised to Wolfgang Van Halen after he criticised his late father Eddie Van Halen‘s guitar playing style in a recent interview.

Wilson faced a backlash earlier this week after telling FaceCulture in an interview that the Van Halen guitarist’s death last year “didn’t [affect me], because I was never a fan”, adding: “I know [Van Halen was] an extraordinary musician, and it’s always sad when an extraordinary artist dies, [but] I was never a fan of the so-called shredder mentality. And I think in many ways, [Van Halen] was the father of that whole kind of movement.”

Wolfgang tweeted Wilson following the publication of the interview to tell him that while he was a fan of Wilson’s music, the latter’s comments on the late Van Halen “bum me out hard”.

Wilson reached out to Wolfgang on Twitter yesterday (February 3) to apologise for the fallout from the interview and give context to his comments about his father.

“Dear @WolfVanHalen, apologies, no disrespect was meant to your father, an extraordinary musician,” Wilson wrote. “I personally never owned any @VanHalen records and didn’t ever get into the style of playing, but he was clearly an incredible innovator.”

Wilson continued: “So when asked about his passing I couldn’t honestly say I was affected deeply by it, at least not in the way that my heroes Bowie or Prince’s passing had affected me.

“This statement was given in honest humility. Forgive me for any offence unintentionally given, and I offer my deepest condolences. SW.”

Responding to the apology, Wolfgang said that Wilson’s words were “incredibly kind”. You can read his response below.

Earlier this week Wilson made use of deepfake technology in the disturbing new video for his latest single ‘Self’, which sees the musician transform into various celebrities including Donald Trump, President Joe Biden, David Bowie, Paul McCartney and Mark Zuckerberg.

Instagram Introduces “Recently Deleted” Feature for Better Content Management

Instagram is putting more power in its users’ hands by allowing them to bring back previously deleted posts.

Now, Instagram photos, videos, reels, IGTV and videos can be restored up to 30 days after deletion. Stories can be restored up to 24 hours after deletion. Account owners must authenticate via text or email to gain access to this new feature.

Not only does this Instagram feature protect against hackers who could potentially gain control of an account and delete content, users can go back on their “felt cute might delete later” moments again and again.

To recover deleted posts, go to Settings > Account > Recently Deleted. Posts in this folder will be automatically deleted after 30 days with the exception of stories, which disappear after 24 hours.

In addition, Instagram already allows users to archive posts, instead of permanently deleting them. Basically, the more Instagram can encourage users to keep content on the platform, the more it thrives.
