The Walking Dead star Chandler Riggs, who also DJs and produces electronic music under the moniker Eclipse, has been released from the hospital following surgery stemming from an unknown illness.
Despite the scary hospitalization, Riggs seems to be in good spirits, sharing an update “fresh out of surgery” with fans on Twitter via a video in which he sports a walker.
Riggs portrayed Carl Grimes, one of the main protagonists on The Walking Dead, prior to his character’s death in the show’s 8th season. Additionally, he is an accomplished EDM producer, releasing music on Steve Aoki‘s famed Dim Mak Records imprint and collaborating with the likes of Pauline Herr and Xavi, among other notable artists.
He also performed a soaring set at the 2018 edition of EDC Las Vegas, one of the most coveted music festivals in the country, which you can check out below.
The complete landing of Anjunadeep‘s most expansive compilation to surface draws nearer. The label’s 12th edition of its highly acclaimed series has revealed another disc of its trio collection. With label bosses James Grant and Jody Wisternoff celebrating their eighth mixed volume together, Anjunadeep 12 unveils another 18 exclusive tracks to its forthcoming 50-track arsenal, selecting a discerning array of underground talent in testament to the imprint’s authority as a global tastemaker.
Welcoming first-time appearances from several and hosting beloved returnees, the second disc sinks into a landscape inhabited by ambient, lush, melancholic soundscapes from artists like CRi, Joseph Ray, Leaving Laurel, Hosini, Dosem, Promnite, and more. Notably, Grant and Wisternoff’s remix of A Silver Mt Zion’s “13 Angels Standing Guard ‘Round The Side Of Your Bed’” makes its way onto the track listing as a simultaneously disquieting and enthralling reimagination.
With all that’s remaining being the final disc of the triptych, Anjunadeep positions itself to continue its reign as Dancing Astronaut’s 2020 Label of the Year into the new year.

John Carpenter has spoken about his love for BABYMETAL, saying that he feels his “life will be complete” if he gets publicly endorsed by the band.
Halloween composer Carpenter spoke about his admiration of BABYMETAL while promoting his upcoming new album ‘Lost Themes III: Alive After Death’, which is set for release next week (February 5).
Speaking to Kerrang! in a new interview, Carpenter confirmed that he is a metal fan and said that he especially loves Metallica.
“But you know, my life will be complete if I get endorsed by the Japanese group BABYMETAL,” Carpenter continued. “I love them! They’re so fabulous.”
Kerrang! then asked Carpenter if he would be keen on collaborating with the band in the future, to which the composer replied: “I would love it.”

Carpenter previously explained in a 2017 interview with Decibel that he was introduced to BABYMETAL’s music by his son.
“Their shows are fabulous,” he said. “My son is obsessed with all things Japanese, so he showed me BABYMETAL and I couldn’t believe it. They’re awesome. What a great idea!”
BABYMETAL recently collaborated with Bring Me The Horizon on their October EP ‘Post Human: Survival Horror’.
Speaking to NME back in November, BMTH frontman Oli Sykes explained how his band and BABYMETAL joined forces on the song ‘Kingslayer’.
“We wanted to do something with them for ages,” Sykes told NME. “We’ve got a really special connection with them, even though we don’t speak the same language. We don’t hang out or have conversations, but when you see them, it makes you really happy.
“They work so well with the whole idea of this record being cyber-punk-y. It sounds like an anime TV trailer.”
GNL Zamba is extremely well-known in his native Uganda, where he’s credited for building the country’s hip hop and luuga flow scene from the ground up. It’s a quite different style at first blush from American hip hop: passionate, tribal and fused with afropunk, but lunga flow and specifically Zamba’s style have been popular in countries like the UK, being a direct near-predecessor to grime music (read: Tinie Tempah, Akon and Fuse ODG).
There are also a number of common threads with American hip hop in GNL Zamba’s newest album, Spear. First, the beat syncopation: generally more complex than your average US hip hop song, it’s easy to see the connection in terms of tempo, bass heft and overall vibe. Zamba’s vocal and rap style is big, booming and free-form, sounding more like battle spitting than the more structured verses. The aggression, vocal timbre and matter-of-fact lyrics Zamba spits are reminiscent of Chuck D from Public Enemy, whom Zamba credits as an influence. In multiple tracks on the album, one can almost imagine Zamba about to open up with “here come the drums.”
The Spear is much more than just its ties to hip hop and punk. Musically diverse to the point of creating its own genre, the album moves from heavy, PE-like basslines and booming lyrics on album openers like “Africa” and “Black Caesar” to more danceable and melodic tracks like “Energy.” Other tracks are full African music like “Sweet Uganda (Star Taffa),” as Zamba conjures the traditional sounds and vibes of his beloved Uganda and then flows with them in his bold, throaty vocal timbre. It’s almost a physical experience when Zamba raps, and we haven’t even gotten to the content of the lyrics.
With his lyrics, GNL Zamba pulls absolutely no punches, diving straight into his message head first from “Africa.” He speaks about the strength of Africa, the history and the power of its people. He lists off all the continent’s accomplishments, not the least of which is being the origin of human life. Far from boastful, Zamba’s lyrics are empowering and expansive. It’s a call to action for the whole world to “go back to the beginning”, to the origin of life, remember where we come from and move forward again with no hate. He also talks about energy and the universality of the human experience. No small topics here, but listeners will get the feeling that even if he was talking about more superficial things, it would sound just as bold and noble.
With many of the lyrics in his native tongue, one still feels the impact of songs like the album’s title track and “Who Got the Power” and we’re also able to see the ease with which a native African dialect goes with hip hop. It’s almost like it was meant to be in Africa all along. As the album comes to its close with tracks like “Wake the Fuck Up” and “Zamba the Great,” the message gets stronger and stronger. This is done on purpose.
People are waking up up to something. People are longing for more connection, more love, equality and wisdom. Many are realizing now that what you actually need is thriving relationships and community to stay functionally sane. We’re asking: Are we just tools for data mining, or where is this all going? We’re seeking a level of consciousness that improves us as human beings. It’s time to go back to where it all began.
As The Spear closes with “Zim Zim Bombo,” GNL Zamba’s message is clear even without the above quote. He he wants to wake up the planet and unite us so we can finally evolve beyond petty politics and racial divides. It feels like a rally, a Bodycount show and a call to action all at once. Zamba is not playing around, and he’s already put his money where his booming voice is. He just wants to know who will join him.
The Spear is out now on GNL Zamba’s label Baboon Forest Entertainment and can be streamed on multiple platforms here. For more videos, check out GNL Zamba’s YouTube channel.

A second helping of BRONSON remixes has been served up. In September, ODESZA and Golden Features announced a trilogy of remix EPs supporting their debut collaborative album. A few weeks later, the trio made good on their promise with the help of Cassian, Offaiah, Skream, and more. Now, the remixes continue to trickle out with five more unique takes on tracks from their highly-acclaimed LP BRONSON.
BRONSON Remixes N°.2 opens and closes with four-on-the-floor beats courtesy of house stars Hayden James and Patrick Topping. Reports of the musician’s passing have come in on Twitter today (January 29), with writer Daniel Dylan Wray one of the first to share the sad news earlier this morning.
“Incredibly sad this morning to learn the news that my old pal Steven SantaCruz has passed away,” Wray wrote. “Pink Grease are one of my fav ever Sheffield bands and very dear to me. Got so many fond memories of Steve. He was also a brilliant filmmaker. A real loss.”
Incredibly sad this morning to learn the news that my old pal Steven Santa Cruz has passed away. Pink Grease are one of my fav ever Sheffield bands and very dear to me. Got so many fond memories of Steve. He was also a brilliant filmmaker. A real loss. https://t.co/aQxLFOvbCo
SantaCruz played guitar and provided vocals in Pink Grease, who were described by writer Simon Price in his tribute today as “a superb band, one of my favourite of the 00s”, while he also worked on the band’s videos.
You can see a selection of the tributes to SantaCruz below.
Incredibly sad to hear that Steven SantaCruz, guitarist with Pink Grease, has passed away. They were a superb band, one of my favourites of the 00s. He made their videos, as well. A lovely and talented man. R.I.P.https://t.co/LNwbfM2IxV
Oh man, that’s such sad news. I used to see him around Sheffield in the Pink Grease days, then around East London years later and he always seemed to radiate an otherworldly and effortless cool. R.I.P, S.S.C ?
Very sad to hear this .. had the pleasure of supporting Pink Grease along with The Things many moons ago bunch of very talented sounders always thought they should have been massive https://t.co/LfPT0Ml6Sz
Very sad to hear that Steven Santa Cruz from Pink Grease has passed away and at such a young age. I didn’t know them too well but they were the most original and exciting band to come out of Sheffield since Pulp. My condolences to his friends and family xhttps://t.co/zPK8d9YKQ1
Sorry to hear about the passing of Stephen Santacruz, Pink Grease were very much a staple of Razor Stiletto lineups during the 00’s and he was one of those people you always remember from those nights whether you knew him well or not.
RIP my hugely talented old friend Steve Santacruz. A lot of you will know him as guitarist in Pink Grease, one of the most effortlessly cool people ever to walk the earth and a true icon of the early-mid ‘00s scene in Sheffield and beyond. https://t.co/uEtNSrxGE9
Pink Grease formed in Sheffield in 2002 and released the mini-album ‘All Over You’ the following year.
After touring with the likes of Ladytron and the Soledad Brothers in 2003, Pink Grease released their full-length debut ‘This Is For Real’ in June 2004 which included the single ‘Fever’.
The band had planned to release a follow-up album, ‘Mechanical Heart’, but the record was never officially released following their split from Mute Records. Pink Grease disbanded in 2007.
Diplo & Mark Ronson’s Silk City just released their newest single “New Love” with Ellie Goulding after a nearly three-year hiatus, and they just dropped their newest “Especially 4 U” mix following the release.
The mix is an hour of delicious disco, funky house goodness with cuts from Dombresky, Dom Dolla, A-Trak, Channel Tres, of course Silk City, and more.
Excision‘s Subsidia imprint is quickly becoming well-known as a space where rising dubstep artists can release new music alongside veterans of the scene. Sullivan King is one of those vets and he has just put forth his explosive new EP, To The Grave.
Seven hard-hitting tracks are featured, including last year’s singles “Drum Mag,” “Tinnitus” with Benda, “Lifeless,” and King’s collaboration with Excision, “Unbound.”
As is to be expected, heavy metal meets relentless bass on To The Grave, like on the eruptive “Tinnitus” and the other previously released singles. That trend continues with new tracks like “War” and “Stitches with Rated R, which feature chugging, powerful guitar riffs and metal-inspired drum work.
The EP’s titular track delivers an epic and cinematic tone, with vocals that emulate a hard rock ballad style. A memorable melody and a down and dirty section round “To The Grave” out in spectacular fashion, cementing it as a likely fan-favorite from the record.
Sullivan King’s To The Grave EP is destined to be a standout for 2021, both on Subsidia and in the world of bass music as a whole. King has outdone himself yet again, serving up some of the most energizing and diverse dubstep in recent memory.
To The Grave and can be found on streaming platforms here.
The V!BES EPs have been responsible for some of the biggest hits in TroyBoi’s career, including his viral sensation “Do You?” and the monstrous “WARLORDZ” with Skrillex. Nearly two years removed from the third installation, TroyBoi is opening his 2021 account by revitalizing the series with a fresh batch of trap heaters.
V!BES VOL 4 opens with a sample of Anita Ward’s 70’s classic “Ring My Bell” injected with TroyBoi’s signature bounce and trap flair. Next up, “Afterhours” collaborators Nina Sky provide a sultry contrast to the jagged production of “Eyez On Me” while Tropkillaz assist on the Latin-inspired “Corneta.” Before the project is over, TroyBoi makes time to draw from New Orleans bounce music and lo-fi on “Baby” and “Clear Waters” respectively while channeling his unique sound into “Unstoppable.” In a surprise move, V!BES VOL 4 also marks the official release of “On My Own” featuring NEFERA, six years after the single first hit YouTube.
