Tycho to welcome the new year with Solo Ascent sunrise stream – Dancing Astronaut

Tycho is preparing to celebrate the new year in the most 2021 way possible—alone in the woods, where the American DJ will serenade fans with a live sunrise stream that’s being billed as a “Solo Ascent.”

Tycho teased the event in a recent tweet, sharing his excitement for the event:

“Dawn has always been a special moment for me and an integral part of the Tycho live experience having found inspiration from my many sunrise sets at Burning Man.”

While it’s often considered “club music,” the bright, organic, and effortless nature of Tycho’s sound more often than not soothes and replenishes listeners, much like balmy rays of sunshine piercing the dewey haze of a brisk January morning.

Solo Ascent is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. EST / 7:00 a.m. PST on January 1. Set in the sprawling hills of Northern California, it will be available to stream for the following 48 hours. More information and tickets for Tycho’s Solo Ascent are available here.

Tame Impala share trippy, bug-filled video for ‘Breathe Deeper’

Tame Impala have shared the official video for ‘Breathe Deeper’.

The song appears on the Kevin Parker-led group’s latest album ‘The Slow Rush’, which was released back in February.

Arriving today (December 15), the single’s animated, colourful visuals follow a dragonfly’s psychedelic journey through various outdoor landscapes. We also come across other cartoon insects and creatures along the way.

The clip was directed by the UK-based Butt Studio, who previously helmed the video to Dua Lipa’s ‘Hallucinate’. Watch the ‘Breathe Deeper’ clip below.

“When a dragonfly takes LSD,” wrote one fan in the comments section. Another viewer wrote: “This gives me Adventure Time vibes.”

‘The Slow Rush’ landed at Number 16 in NME‘s 50 Best Albums Of 2020 feature last week. Writer Damian Jones described the record as “a cosmic nostalgic pop behemoth that makes you long for normality”.

Meanwhile, Kevin Parker has described Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s collaborative single ‘WAP’ as a “perfect song”. “For me, it’s the most memorable song of 2020,” he explained.

Parker’s comments came during a recent interview with Triple J after Tame Impala covered Edywn Collins’ ‘A Girl Like You’ for the Australian station’s Like A Version segment. The band, who appeared as a trio, also performed ‘Breathe Deeper’.

Tame Impala are due to mark the tenth anniversary of their debut album ‘Innerspeaker’ by releasing a special vinyl boxset in March.

Jai Wolf’s Debut Single “Indian Summer” Gets Remixed for 5th Anniversary [LISTEN]

Jai Wolf‘s breakout single “Indian Summer” celebrates its 5th anniversary with a spectacular re-release, complete with three brand new remixes and an encore!

There’s no better way to kick off the remix pack than with the original, which reminisces on five glorious years, sending us back to the time and place we heard it first. For many of us, that was at a music festival, which strikes a bittersweet chord this year.

The 2020 Encore Mix brightens the mood even further with a theatric, extended production filled with lush synths. Expertly crafted remixes from Kasbo, MEMBA and Duskus also tribute the hit dance track just for the occasion.

Back in 2015, Jai Wolf emerged with his debut single “Indian Summer” on ODESZA‘s label, Foreign Family Collective. The song landed at No. 31 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic songs chart and earned a spot on triple j’s coveted Hottest 100 in Australia that same year.

On the single and re-release, Jai Wolf says, “It’s been surreal to see how this song has impacted so many people around the world over the past 5 years. From wedding aisles, to skydiving, to spin classes, and to festival fireworks, I’m forever grateful for everyone who used the song to soundtrack their lives. Much love to Foreign Family and Odesza for giving it a home.”

Experience “Indian Summer” in new ways below and revisit our 2016 interview with Jai Wolf here.

Lane 8 takes 2020 Artist of the Year victory lap with seamless winter mixtape [Stream] – Dancing Astronaut

Not even a complete 24-hour turn from Lane 8‘s assignation to Dancing Astronaut‘s 2020 Artist of the Year throne, the This Never Happened label head has bestowed the grand finale to his championship round with a fitting victory lap: his “Winter 2020 Mixtape.” It of course goes without saying that while the rest of the world might consider December 21 to be winter’s formal entrance, for electronic enthusiasts, winter has only arrived when Lane 8 assumes his seasonal initiation responsibilities to officially introduce the coldest months of the year, this year on December 15.

Lane 8’s fifth and final addition to his mix footprint this year, succeeding the seasonal series’ three counterparts and an unprecedented Groundhog Day celebration, is a proper conclusion to his 2020 crusade, which might be his single greatest when all is said and done. The nearly two-and-a-half-hour delivery completes all of the frontline checkpoints that one would expect from his winter prelude, opening with a Lane 8 ID of his own, introducing forthcoming This Never Happened music, and everything in between.

Stream Lane 8’s “Winter 2020 Mixtape” in full below, and read why he earned the 2020 Artist of the Year title here.

St. Vincent says there’s been “a tectonic shift” on her new album

St. Vincent has given an update on her next studio album, revealing that Stevie Wonder has inspired her new material.

The musician – aka Annie Clark – released her latest record, the acclaimed ‘Masseduction’, back in 2017, before sharing a piano-led reworked version with ‘MassEducation’ the following year.

In a new interview with Mojo, Clark has spoken of what to expect from her next full-length project. “[It’s] a tectonic shift,” she told the magazine.

“I felt I had gone as far as I could possibly go with angularity. I was interested in going back to the music I’ve listened to more than any other – Stevie Wonder records from the early ’70s, Sly And The Family Stone. I studied at the feet of those masters.”

She went on to describe her next record as sounding like “the colour palette of the world of Taxi Driver” and “Gena Rowlands in a Cassavetes film”.

“I just wanted to capture the colours, the film stock, and tell these stories of being down and out, down on your luck,” Clark added.

St. Vincent also revealed that she plans to strip-back her live show when she heads back out on the road.

“My last tour was a whole bunch of production and high-concept video and razzle-dazzle and I can’t go any further with that,” she said. “I’m going to come down and just play. I don’t think high-gloss sheen is going to be that resonant with people because it will feel very much [like] ‘let them eat cake’.”

Clark performed a series of divisive solo sets in support of ‘Masseduction’ in 2017 before rejoining her live band for a “blistering, disturbing rock show” the following summer. Fans witnessed the latter incarnation when St. Vincent toured the UK in August 2018.

The update on new material comes after Jack Antonoff (who produced ‘Masseduction’) revealed that he’d been “messing around” in the studio with Clark earlier this year.
