THE LOST TAPES: Zeds Dead Hit Us with 10 Previously Unreleased Tracks [LISTEN]

Zeds Dead just hit us with THE LOST TAPES.

Today’s 10-track installment includes previously unreleased recordings from the duo’s humble beginnings, circa 2008 – 2009 to be precise. Bringing it back to the basics, Zeds Dead unleash their genius with an assortment of early productions that help shaped their sound.

Tracks like “Voltage,” “Gorilla” and “Goon” are all about heavy bass and unmatched grooves, laced with that underlying signature Zeds Dead sound. The first edition of the THE LOST TAPES also goes deep, with gorgeous, chilled out productions including “Ice Crack” and “Nostalgia.”

ZD share:

We’ve been in the studio a lot this year and got the chance to dig through the vaults a bit while working on new music. This Friday we’re sharing some of what we found. THE LOST TAPES is a collection of old school dubs and misplaced IDs that have never been released until now. Vol. 1 is 10 beats we made sometime during 2008-2009, with future volumes to cover other time periods.

Listen here and let us know if you’re loving it!

After Cryptic Email Campaign, Subtronics Announces Debut Cyclops Compilation

Last week, a number of electronic music producers received random, cryptic emails from an address that looks like it was comprised of hieroglyphics. Many of those artists tweeted about the email in a collective “WTF” moment, sharing screenshots of it to the bewilderment of EDM Twitter.

Adding to the mystique of the whole email quandary was its contents. In a blurb that looks like it was plucked out of a Hunger Games book, the email simply reads, “You have been selected. You will be required to use your individual set of skills in order to survive. Your first mission launches soon.” Confused by the email and its Liam Neeson quote from Taken, many of the artists who received it tried to decipher the message, but to no avail.

Gorgon City provide fodder for at-home dance floors with ‘REALM EP’ – Dancing Astronaut

After arriving in a limited edition, 12-inch format for Record Store Day in August, Gorgon City‘s REALM EP has gone digital. Under the REALM EP musical masthead, Gorgon City constituents Matt Robson-Scott and Kye Gibbon convene a trio of past releases, capping off the triptych with an inclusion that, to date, has only been available on vinyl: “Trapdoor.”

Evidence that the UK duo’s house focus has never been sharper, “Trapdoor” catalyzed crowd reaction towards the end of 2019 when Gorgon City subjected it to road testing during a string of REALM club shows. Given its demonstrated history of dance floor galvanization, “Trapdoor” is a suitable start to REALM EP, which also includes “Grooves On The Vinyl” (2017), “Roped In” (2019), and “Elizabeth Street” (2019). Watch Dua Lipa perform ‘Future Nostalgia’ tracks for NPR’s ‘Tiny Desk’ series

Dua Lipa has performed a handful of tracks from ‘Future Nostalgia’ as part of NPR’s Tiny Desk concert series.

Lipa kicked off her set with ‘Levitating’, the final single released from her aforementioned record. She followed the song up with album tracks ‘Pretty Please’ and ‘Love Again’, before closing her set with ‘Don’t Start Now’.

Watch Dua Lipa’s 16-minute performance below:

In compliance with coronavirus-imposed restrictions, Dua Lipa performed her set from home rather than at NPR’s Tiny Desk studio. The majority of Tiny Desk concerts filmed this year have taken place outside of the NPR studio, with John Legend, Norah Jones and Tame Impala among the artists to have recorded their sets remotely.

Filmed in London, Lipa was accompanied by bass, guitar and four back-up singers for her NPR appearance.

“This is the first time the band has been together in ages,” Lipa said in the video.

“So this is really special that we all had the opportunity to get together and put this on from our home in London right back to you wherever you are in the world.”

Just last week, Dua Lipa broke streaming records with her Studio 2054 livestream. The broadcast had over five million views by November 30 and is available to view until tomorrow (December 6).

Earlier this month, Dua Lipa’s Spotify profile was hacked, apparently by a Taylor Swift fan. The hacker — who reportedly goes by the name Daniel — replaced Lipa’s biography and information on the platform with images of himself.

Lana Del Rey, Future and Pop Smoke were among the other artists targeted by the hacker.

“I Believe,” with Asha, is an assortment of glistening synths and pretty melodies coupled with his iconic bass sounds, albeit a little more subtle in this quaint single. Following up previous single like “You & I” and “Sink Your Teeth In,” we’re gradually getting a clearer picture of the album overall.

Xavi Shines on Pensive Single from Debut Album, “Neverless”

Xavi has been sensational since first releasing music in 2016, garnering support from the likes of Madeon, Porter Robinson, and San Holo in just a few short years. In 2020, the Missouri product has collaborated with Just a Gent and Akira Flay on “Miso & Memories” as well as released his solo single “The Cycle.” Today he’s delivered the first single from his debut album, The Endless Searing Skies, releasing via Seven Lions‘ Ophelia Records imprint.

“Neverless” is Xavi’s most refined work yet. A slow, ambient intro carefully leads listeners into a barrage of distorted trills, blissful stabs, and expertly timed breaks. The second drop is a stark shift in energy, transforming the overall tranquility into an electronic playground of emotions. Though Xavi is carving his own path with his already distinct sound, fans of Robinson, Madeon, k?d, and Anamanaguchi will certainly find solace in his music.

Premiere: Jeremy Olander solves the cube with newest release, ‘Rubicks’ – Dancing Astronaut

Jeremy Olander will return to the helm on December 11 with a momentous three-track crooner, dishing out several of his most anticipated and sought-after 2020 productions through the release of his upcoming Rubicks EP.

Heard in full-length and quality for the first time on Dancing Astronaut, the EP’s title track delivers the sophisticated and nuanced club flare that fans have come to expect from Olander and his signature label, Vivrant Records. “Rubicks” puts Olander’s melodic prowess on full display; however, the real stars of the show are the melancholic synths that ebb, flow, and jive their way through the tune’s progressive-inspired drops. The result isn’t necessarily a peak hour, hands-in-the air face-melter, but rather a refreshingly contemplative and intricate house tune that reveals just a bit more of itself with each and every listen.

Those who have followed Olander’s ironclad mixes through lockdown may recognize “Rubicks” as the adorned “Berns ID 02,” a production that’s caught the attention of aficionados since at least March. The remainder of the release, available December 11, features equally revered IDs in “Summit” and “The Mist” (previously regarded as “Balance Tour ID” and “Whiskey Jar ID,” respectively).

Pre-save the full release here, and listen to its stirring lead single, “Rubicks,” below.

Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, E-40 and Too $hort form rap supergroup

A new rap supergroup comprising Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, E-40 and Too $hort is set to emerge in 2021.

That’s according to Too $hort, who told a podcast recently that he and the other rappers are preparing to run several new songs “into the new year as a package deal”.

The rapper was speaking to MC Serch for an episode of his Serch Says podcast when he revealed the news toward the end of the interview (as obtained exclusively by HipHopDX).

“During the quarantine, I got a call from Ice Cube and E-40,” Short started explaining around the 55-minute mark (listen below).

“Over the years, probably more than the past five years, we’ve been doing kind of these old school concerts. It will be either Snoop Dogg or Ice Cube headlining, or it will be me, E-40, sometimes it’s Bone Thugs, DJ Quik. They usually call it like ‘How The West Was Won,’ ‘West Coast Kings’ or some shit like that and it’s always a big show and it always sells out. It’s like 20, 30,000 people — whatever the size of the arena is — it’s sold out.

“So I get a call during the early part of the quarantine from E-40 and Ice Cube going, ‘Man, we feel like we should do an album. Like me, you … it’s E-40, Cube, Too $hort and Snoop Dogg. And I’m like — E-40 and Too $hort from the Bay, Snoop Dogg and Cube are from L.A. and we like the West Coast foundation. We sat there and was like, ‘Fuck it, let’s do it.’ So, we start coming up with beats.”

The rapper added that it’s been “easy” to pull the supergroup together since everyone’s been at home with access to their home studios.

The group’s name – nor any releases – are yet to be officially announced.

In other news, Snoop Dogg has teamed up with Raff Pylon for a festive new single called ‘Christmas In California’.

Ice Cube, meanwhile, was invited to speak at pro-Israel organisation gala following his past alleged antisemitism. The rapper faced criticism earlier in the summer for tweets that were regarded as racially offensive,
