MiM0SA Toasts to Life in New Single ‘Freak’

Emerging from the shadows of the underground, Northern California based electronic music producer MiM0SA, real name Tigran Mkhitaryan is proud to announce the release of his latest single “Freak.” The track is the third single release featured on his long-awaited, forthcoming album release Psychedelic Stereo VOL. II. A follow up to MiM0SA’s beloved original 2010 Psychedelic Stereo, Volume II was created as a gift to the fans that have been following him since Day One. The album celebrates the evolution and growth of his creative artistry over the course of the last decade. Emotive and grimy, “Freak” starkly contrasts from the first two lead singles featured on Psychedelic Stereo VOL. II with its dark leaning vibe, hypnotic rhythms, rolling bass lines, and nostalgic vocal sample taken from the iconic 1996 Wayans Brothers film Don’t Be a Menace. Accented by celestial synths, “Freak” serves as a powerful reminder that we can find light and joy even in the darkest of circumstances. “Freak” will be followed by the official release of the highly anticipated Psychedelic Stereo VOL. II, out Friday, December 11th on Alpha Pup Records.

“As the third single, ‘Freak’ juxtaposes the two lead singles with its more wild, celebratory vibe. I got inspired to create this track when I was rewatching ‘Don’t Be a Menace’ during quarantine. I thought it would be nostalgic and funny to sample that film for anyone that grew up in that era.”MiM0SA

IDLES debut animated video for ‘Kill Them With Kindness’

IDLES have debuted their new black and white animated video for ‘Kill Them With Kindness’ – check it out in full below.

The latest video from the Bristol punks sees them immortalised in cartoon form, alongside a series of increasingly surreal images that are presented throughout the clip.

The track is taken from the band’s critically-acclaimed UK number one album ‘Ultra Mono‘, while the video was directed and designed by James Carbutt and animated by Pip Williamson.

Describing the video, Carbutt said: “The dingy pub setting in the film is based on the Working Men’s Clubs of my hometown (Barnsley). It was nice to imagine IDLES bursting in and spreading a message of love.

“During our research we discovered that no two Wetherspoons carpets are the same, they are all unique like snowflakes, so yeah making this film was a wild ride.”

IDLES’ third album ‘Ultra Mono’ topped the UK album charts in its first week, making it the band’s first-ever UK number one album.

Next year, the band will embark on an intimate in-store tour of the UK before a summer tour of the UK and Europe, with support from Anna Calvi, Jehnny Beth, Cate Le Bon and more. They will also open for Pearl Jam at BST Hyde Park, alongside Pixies.

Premiere: Yolanda Be Cool celebrate a decade of ‘We No Speak Americano’ with anniversary edit [Q&A]

Yolanda Be Cool‘s status as a household name is owed in part to “We No Speak Americano.” An emblem of what it means to be evergreen, the electro-pop anthem, produced alongside DCUP and released in February 2010, exercised a white-knuckle grip on pop culture from the day it left the hard drive. From soundtracking a 2013 Fiat US commercial to gracing Just Dance 4, “We No Speak Americano” became a prominent stitch in the sonic fabric of the past decade.

The pervasiveness of “We No Speak Americano” considered, a celebration of the buoyant cut’s 10-year birthday would not be complete without proper commemoration, and Yolanda Be Cool weren’t about to observe the milestone without a little pomp and circumstance. Thus, the “10th Anniversary Edit” of “We No Speak Americano” was born.

Delightfully familiar despite its twist, the “10th Anniversary Edit” emulates the experience of reconnecting with an old friend, and translates it to the form of a listening opportunity. Yolanda Be Cool discussed the honorary rinse and the remix pack on which is will appear in an interview with Dancing Astronaut.

The “10th Anniversary Edit” of “We No Speak Americano” will formally release in full on December 4, but listeners can stream it one day early, exclusively on Dancing Astronaut.

What guided your re-imaginative process as you revisited your decade-old classic to produce the edit of “We No Speak Americano”?

Matt: “We wanted to make something that was different enough to excite people but also, not so different that fans of the original wouldn’t recognize it. As the famous saying from street vendors in Thailand goes, ‘same same but different.’ Basically, we wanted to keep the bones but dress it up differently, so we thought replacing the sax line with something else did the job in a new way. We also updated the drums and bass a bit while we were at it.”

Can you tell those who are unfamiliar with the original’s backstory how “We No Speak Americano” came together 10 years prior?

Andy: “It was basically just us coming across the original version of the song (which is from 1956 and was famous in its own right in Italy) but is very slow, and so we did what we do and chucked it in the sampler and to our joy, still kept the same magic at 125 BPM. We then showed it to our buddy DCUP who we were on a plane with at the time and [with whom] we had always wanted to do something, and he loved it! So, we got together in his studio a couple days later and out came the version that was released.”

The forthcoming remix pack features a host of international talent. How did you select the remixing artists for this project?

Andy: “SLLASH n DOPPE are from Romania and are amazing. They totally got the vibe for the song. We play a lot of their originals and love their style, so we knew that they would smash it.

CHEMICAL SURF are Brazilian legends and the song was huge in Brazil, which is probably our favorite country outside of Australia. We also play a ton of their stuff, so it felt right to ask them, and it was an honor to get an enthusiastic yes from them, and they nailed it!
And then JAXX DA FISHWORKS is our buddy and Japanese brother, and he’s super sick. We did a tour of Japan with him just before COVID-19 hit and we mentioned to him we were doing a little re-release. He asked for the stems, and pretty much before we got off the plane, he’d smashed out his mix. We were stoked to be able to have him on the pack.”

Watch Chris Cornell’s daughter Lily cover Alice In Chains for first public performance

Chris Cornell’s daughter Lily Cornell Silver has shared an Alice In Chains cover for her first public performance.

The late Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman’s eldest daughter performed as part of the MoPOP Founders Award ceremony on Tuesday night (December 1). She paid tribute to the event’s honourees with a rendition of ‘Black Gives Way to Blue’.

Joining a number of grunge and alt-rock luminaries for the livestream event, including members of Soundgarden, Lily – whose mother is Alice In Chains’ longtime manager Susan Silver – was accompanied by Queensrÿche’s Chris DeGarmo.

“So very honoured and excited to be a part of this year’s Founders Awards honoring Alice in Chains and benefitting the Museum of Pop Culture,” Lily said in a statement. “These guys are, and always have been, my family, and I feel so lucky to be honouring them alongside so many amazing artists. I’m singing a song that is super meaningful to me.”

Watch Lily’s cover of ‘Black Gives Way to Blue’ at the 1:43:30 mark below:

In October, Lily’s half-sister Toni, Cornell’s youngest daughter, launched a new initiative in order to tackle the stigma surrounding addiction.

The goal of ‘Stop the Stigma: Tackling the Stigma of Addiction Through Education’ is to raise awareness of substance abuse disorder by educating children about prevention through a new program.

Toni launched the initiative in coordination with her brother Christopher Cornell and in partnership with the Addiction Policy Forum and the Chris and Vicky Cornell Foundation.

Meanwhile, Pearl Jam guitarist Stone Gossard has paid tribute to his friend and former collaborator Chris Cornell.

In a recent interview, Gossard discussed the former Audioslave and Soundgarden frontman, who died by suicide aged 52 in 2017. “He elevated himself in a way that everyone dreams about,” he said of his friend.
