Miley Cyrus “frustrated” that fans unable to get physical copies of ‘Plastic Hearts’

Miley Cyrus has responded to fans who were unable to get their hands on a physical copy of her new album, ‘Plastic Hearts’.

The ‘Wrecking Ball’ singer released her seventh album on Friday (November 27). However, with it being Black Friday, a number of retailers in the US opted to only stock sale items and so ‘Plastic Hearts’ was nowhere to be seen.

Miley fans took to social media to air their frustrations about not receiving their physical pre-orders as well as not being able to find any copies in the shops.

Yesterday (November 29), Cyrus issued a response. In a statement posted to Twitter, she wrote: “My fans are everything to me and to know y’all are disappointed when going out to stores/calling/checking stock to be let down I am equally/if not more frustrated.

“When choosing 11/27 THE SUGGESTED DATE for album release my team and I were never told major retailers don’t stock physical albums on Black Friday and wouldn’t get copies of PH until a few weeks after release. The packaging of the record is intimate, honest, and a visual reflection of the sound of my new record that I am so proud of. It was created BY ME personally at home making art FOR YOU. I want it in your hands!”

She concluded: “I’ve outgrown blame. It’s a waste of time and energy. This album was a labor of love and nothing can sabotage my admiration for the record my collaborators and I have created.”

Cyrus released ‘Plastic Hearts’ on Friday (November 27) featuring the tracks ‘High’, ‘Midnight Sky’ and ‘Bad Karma’.

In a four-star review, NME‘s El Hunt said the pop star’s new album “finds the pop-star-turned-rock-star going hell for leather – and when Miley Cyrus is at full throttle, it’s an absolute blast. Life has imitated art, and she’s become her very own Ashley O.”

Noisia’s Thys and Amon Tobin conjoin on dark ambient EP, ‘Ithaca’ – Dancing Astronaut

Thys of Noisia and Amon Tobin have released a five-track experimental ambient EP titled, Ithaca. Journeying through depths of chilling soundscapes and cinematic textures, the expansive dark-toned multi-composition finally sees its fruition on Vision Recordings after nearly a decade progression of work.

Ithaca delivers an extensively spellbinding and mesmeric experience from the two electronic wizards, propelled by their unusual sound design methodology and amplification of atmospheric territories. Mixing organic synths, orchestral, and even their own synthetic vocal textures, the long-time friends and creative partners have traveled back and forth from Los Angeles to the Netherlands over a span of eight years. Their track “Turning Point,” with Sleepnet, originally formulated the relationship as Thys recalls,

“‘Turning Point,’ in its oldest shape, was started in 2011 when I first visited Amon’s old studio, he was still living among the giant Sequoia trees outside San Francisco back then. It took almost a decade, and many sessions between LA and Groningen for us to fulfill the initial promise that first demo gave us.”

The release follows Tobin’s returns to his bass alias Two Fingers for the project’s first album in over eight years, Fight! Fight! Fight! as well as Thys’ debut solo single, “Unmoved Mover,” from his upcoming debut EP, Unwound.

Nova Twins call on MOBO Awards to introduce Rock/Alternative category

Nova Twins have penned an open letter to the MOBO Awards, calling for them to introduce a Rock/Alternative category in their 2021 awards.

In the letter, the London rock duo say that the inclusion of the new category could “widen the representation that ourselves and so many others didn’t have growing up”.

Elsewhere in the letter, the pair say that the move would represent “more than just a category,” writing: “It’s a message to all young black people, letting them know that they can do and be anything that they choose.”

Read Nova Twins’ full letter to the MOBO Awards below.

Dear MOBO Awards,

We are Nova Twins, a band of two mixed race girls from South East London and Essex who shout through distorted mics and play gnarly bass riffs.

We are writing this open letter to ask you to help pave the way for Alternative and Rock POC artists. We believe that you can widen the representation that ourselves and so many others didn’t have growing up. Rock’n’Roll is of black origin but because of the systemic issues that we still face today, POC contributors to the genre have been lost along the way.

We have a proposition: we would love for you to consider adding a Rock/Alternative category to your 2021 award show, celebrating the best new wave of artists in the scene today, whilst paying tribute to the POC originators and founders of Rock’n’Roll and Rhythm’n’Blues.

We grew up watching the MOBO Awards, feeling grateful for its CEO and Founder Kanya King MBE, who pushed boundaries and helped bring black music and culture into the mainstream. We want to use our platform to raise the voices of the unheard, diversifying the space for Alternative POC bands but we can’t do it alone. We need trailblazing, influential platforms like the MOBOs to back us and look ahead to a more diverse future for music.

People often don’t know that Rock’n’Roll was in fact largely originated by a black woman. Starting her career in the 1930s, Sister Rosetta Tharpe went on to inspire household names through the decades. You can see and hear her influence in the works of Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Tina Turner and Jimi Hendrix for instance, who then went on to shape the musical world we live in. Her guitar playing technique also had a major influence on the development of British Blues in the 1960s. We all owe her a huge debt and with the help of others, we want to continue the pioneering work she started. We feel strongly that this needs to be represented in the MOBO Awards.

This is more than just a category, it’s a message to all young black people, letting them know that they can do and be anything that they choose. That they have more creative options available to them, other than the ones society has offered them. It’s up to us all to give the new generation the tools and encouragement to do so. It’s time to create a different landscape to the one we entered.

2020 has been a time for us all to reflect and re-educate ourselves. Let 2021 be the year we all take action.

Much love,
Amy & Georgia
(Nova Twins)

“Being black women doing punk music is political,” Nova Twins told NME in an interview earlier this year.

“When we play festivals, we’re the only people that look like us on these bills and a majority of the audience would never have seen a band like us, so we need to be the best band possible so their whole perception of black women playing rock music is changed,” they added. “We wanted to be the voices for the unheard.”

Save Our Scene announce new protests in London and Bristol

Save Our Scene protests are set to take place in London and Bristol this week, supporting musicians struggling due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The two-wheeled protests came to London last month, with cyclists riding through the streets of the capital to raise awareness of musicians unable to receive financial support from the government during the pandemic.

A new protest will come to London on Wednesday (December 2), starting at 7pm GMT at Speakers Corner in Hyde Park and riding to Parliament Square.

A second protest will take place the following day in Bristol, beginning on Clifton Down, also at 7pm. See full details of the protests below.

Save Our Scene founder George Fleming said: “As instructed by the Government, the music industry is getting on their bike. Our aim is to bring music lovers and professionals together and show the Government how important it is to protect the arts. We will be protesting until we see change, we cannot stop and must stand strong for what we believe in.

“The first protest in London was so successful back in October and we’re confident that it’s only going to get bigger. I’m excited to take the campaign to Bristol. The city is one of the most musically eclectic in the country. If you love music and have not been to Bristol before, now is your chance!”

The Musicians Union revealed in April that 19% of their members were considering quitting a career in music due to a lack of government support during lockdown, with MU General Secretary Horace Trubridge voicing fears that the number may be much higher in a follow-up interview with NME.

Trubridge previously told NME that he believes the coronavirus to be the biggest crisis facing the music industry for 100 years.

Dylan Matthew and Danny Olson deliver cinematic cover of ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You’ – Dancing Astronaut

Since 2018, the name “Dylan Matthew” has steadily circulated contemporary dance circles, cropping up on releases from electronic figureheads such as Seven Lions (“First Time” and “Another Me“) and SLANDER (“Love Is Gone”), among other industry fixtures. Although not all dance listeners will recognize the singer-songwriter’s name at first glance, it’s almost certain that they’ve heard Matthew assist on a prominent record, with Tritonal and Au5‘s “Happy Where We Are” serving as the most recent example.

After a hot streak of electronic guest slots, Matthew has broke pattern to foray into a different format: Christmas music. For the uninitiated, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” is a gateway to Matthew and his range; for the familiar, it’s a surprise gift from an artist who has continuously asserted his vocal strengths in the dance domain.

A stylistic deviation developed in partnership with Danny Olson, Matthew’s cover of the Christmas classic is a glittering display of his vocal chops that invites parallels between Matthew’s voice and Michael Bublé’s. Olson’s fluency in cinematic technique is not only ever-apparent, but also an elevating element of the “All I Want for Christmas Is You” remake that is sure to set it apart. Dolly Parton says she “cried all night” over dispute with Elvis Presley

Dolly Parton has revealed she “cried all night long” after turning down Elvis Presley’s request to record a cover of her song ‘I Will Always Love You’.

The Country icon released the song in 1974, before it received a famous 1992 cover by Whitney Houston for romantic thriller The Bodyguard.

Parton revealed that Elvis also wanted to record a version of her hit, but she turned him down over the money.

  • READ MORE: Dolly Parton’s Christmas on the Square review: a festive throwback to classic Hollywood

Writing in The Big Issue’s Letter To My Younger Self, she explained: “I’d been invited down to the studio to meet Elvis and be there when he sang my song. That was the most exciting thing that had ever happened to me. Who doesn’t love Elvis?

“But then Colonel (Tom Parker, Presley’s legendary manager) called me the afternoon before the session and said ‘You do know we have to have at least half the publishing on any song that Elvis records?’

“And I said ‘No, I did not know that’. He said ‘Well, it’s just a rule’. So I said ‘Well, it’s not my rule’.”

Parton added: “And I cried all night long, ’cause I was so disappointed. It wasn’t Elvis, I loved Elvis. And I’m sure he was as disappointed as I was because he had it all worked up and ready to go. I know he loved the song.”

Speaking about Presley’s wife of six years, Parton said: “Priscilla told me later that he sang that song to her when they were coming down the steps of the courthouse after they divorced. That really touched me and I thought ‘Oh well, I can only imagine’. But it wasn’t his fault.”

Parton went on to choose Presley as her “last conversation” if she could speak to anyone from history, in order to officially end the feud.

She explained: “I’d probably talk about I Will Always Love You and say ‘Hey, I bet you were as disappointed as I was about all that and I still dream about you singing that song’.

“Matter of fact, I even wrote a song called I Dreamed About Elvis Last Night and I had an Elvis soundalike sing it with me and we actually sing ‘I will always love you’ in it.

“And one day, I’m going to put that track out. So I think that I’d talk to Elvis, and just clear that up with him.”

Parton received widespread praise earlier this month after it was revealed that she had  funded a COVID-19. The star was confirmed to have donated $1million (£753k) of her own money to aid research by the Vanderbilt University Medical Center since the start of the pandemic.

The research centre played a key role in the development of a vaccine from US biotechnology firm Moderna.

After Parton’s role in funding the vaccine was revealed, she said she was “a very proud girl”.

“When I donated the money to the COVID fund I just wanted it to do good and evidently, it is!” she said. “Let’s just hope we can find a cure real soon.”

She also recently reflected on securing a duet with Miley Cyrus on her latest album ‘A Holly Dolly Christmas’.
