MARAUDA Goes On A Tear With Hard-Hitting ‘Avoidable Cause’

Celebrated Australian dubstep producer MARAUDA brings a spirited, fierce edge to modern bass music. It’s the reason why he’s got the entire bass head community closely watching his next move and endeavor. The dubstep prodigy first made noise from the early age of 16 under the name Mastadon and since then he’s burst onto the epicenter of bass music across the world.

Now, only 20 years old, MARAUDA’s explosive and unsparing signature sound has caught the attention of big-league bass idols and punters alike. His impending single ‘AVOIDABLE CAUSE’ is a blistering cut with spitfire transitions and mutated soundscapes. This ambitious track beckons a breakneck production style suited for dubstep and bass enthusiasts from Australia to America.

Boy George says David Bowie once congratulated him for winning ‘Stars in Their Eyes’

Boy George has said David Bowie once congratulated him for winning Stars in Their Eyes after posing as the late icon.

George, who won the talent show twice in 2001 and 2002 posing as Bowie, recalled a time he had dinner with the late artist in New York in 2005.

Speaking to NME for Does Rock ‘N’ Roll Kill Braincells?, the Culture Club singer said: “I won Stars in Their Eyes twice as Bowie, which is another thing my manager was like: ‘Who the fuck told you to do that?!’.

“When I had dinner with Bowie in 2005 in New York, he said to me: ‘Oh, I hear you won Stars in Their Eyes?’. And I looked at him and went: ‘No, I didn’t win once – I won twice’, to which he replied: ‘Good boy – I would expect nothing less!’.

“The second time I won, I took it seriously and worked with a vocal coach.”

George recently admitted that he apologised to former Culture Club drummer Jon Moss.

Moss sued George, as well as guitarist Roy Hay and bassist Mikey Craig, last year, with the drummer’s lawyers claiming he was told to “take a break” by the band’s manager Paul Kemsley in 2018.

“We are having this court case so I thought I would call him as I thought I was really moved by the script and I was really moved by the story of how we met and I suddenly thought: ‘You know what, I forgot about all that’,” George said.

“I forgot about all that really amazing stuff when I met him and you know how much I was in love with him and how it was so beautiful and exciting and all the stuff happened. It got lost in all this kind of bitterness and all this feuding.

“So it was interesting for me to sit with Jon and go: ‘Actually mate, I might have to apologise to you for some things.”

Drezo Finally Shares A Clip Of Forthcoming Rezz Collaboration

A year ago, nearly to the day, Rezz and Drezo spoke on Twitter about a collaboration they had planned. Though Drezo’s original tweet is gone, Rezz’s remains and the fruit of that collaboration has finally appeared.

Yesterday, Drezo finally posted a clip of the demonic collaboration. It’s unclear how close it is to being finished, or even what it will be called — the track title on Ableton is just “ID” in the clip he shared.

But rest assured, it exists! And we want to hear the rest of it ASAP.

Stay tuned for more info on this exciting project!

Bandcamp Live: The New Ticketed Streaming Service for Artists

Bandcamp is on a mission to keep musicians afloat financially and music lovers happy spiritually. While in-person concerts are still on hold, the show must go on(line). Enter Bandcamp Live, described in the platform’s announcement as “a new ticketed live streaming service that makes it easy for artists to perform for and connect with their fans, and for fans to directly support the artists they love.”

For most artists, the majority of revenue comes from live performances. During the global lockdown period, musicians have had to rely heavily on streaming revenue, which oftentimes only pulls in fractions of a cent. Bandcamp Live is looking to change that.

Woflgang Gartner and Kill The Noise man their ‘Battlestations’ for one of 2020’s hottest collaborations

Wolfgang Gartner and Kill The Noise have teamed up for the joint collaboration that nobody knew they needed. The new track, “Battlestations,” brings the best of both artists, making the magic happen with Gartner’s playful and cerebral melodies and Kill The Noise’s unrivaled, bass-driven finesse.

Fans of Kill The Noise will likely recognize “Battlestations” from his October Twitch performance, where the veteran producer gushed over his admiration for Gartner. The single is everything that one would hope for in a project spearheaded by the creative reciprocals; it’s cinematic, intricate, clean, and above all else, an utter bomb.

“Battlestations” is an ambitious release that covers a surprising amount of musical ground for a four-minute burner, and while this approach may feel arbitrary at the hands of lesser producers, “Battlestations” instead feels deliberate throughout. Gartner described his and Kill The Noise’s collaborative approach to the track, stating,

“‘Battlestations’ is the first collaboration between me and Kill The Noise, although we’ve known each other for about 10 years and [have] been fans of each others’ music. It is by far the most beastly and complicated project I’ve ever worked on—Kill The Noise and I are both perfectionists and unwilling to settle for anything less than amazing.  The result is almost three different songs in one, but tied together in a way that retains continuity and flow, and I’m extremely proud of it.”

“Battlestations” is out now via ALT:Vision Records. Purchase the track here and stream it in full below.

Common on fighting for change, hope for Joe Biden and revolutionary music

Common is no stranger to fighting for change. The Chicago native has been using his music to shine a light on social injustice for years, while also regularly getting out on the frontlines and protesting with the people. His latest album, ‘A Beautiful Revolution Pt.1’, is a call to action, which arrives after a crucial US election that saw Common going door to door encouraging people to vote.

We caught up with the rapper, actor and activist to discuss his new record, canvassing for votes, fighting racism and bagging a rare feature from Lenny Kravitz.

Hello Common. Where were you when you found out that Joe Biden had won the election?

Common: “I was in Savannah, Georgia. I had been on set all night and got home at around 7am. By 11am, my phone was vibrating a lot and I was like, ‘Man, what’s up?’ So I looked at my phone and people were texting me congratulations.”

How did you celebrate?

“I celebrated with my team, we had champagne. Then I spent the whole day just enjoying the moment, watching the news a little bit, listening to music. I just sat around and talked to people. I didn’t want to do any work, I just wanted to take it in.”

During the election you were out canvassing and encouraging people to vote. What made you want to get involved?

“I felt it was necessary because I felt the sadness around the country. I wanted to go 100 per cent for Biden and [Kamala] Harris because they are what’s best for this country. They are looking to really be leaders and get the country in the right place, which helps the world get in a better place. I also can’t say I care about people and not go out and do the things I was doing, because if I had just sat back then I might as well have voted for [Donald] Trump, you know? Like Nina Simone said, it’s our duty as artists to reflect the times in which we live. So I felt like it was my duty to be a human being and help change the times, be in the faces of people, Black people specifically who felt ostracised and not a part of it.”

What does Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ win mean for America moving forward?

“It means we have true leadership in the White House. Leaders who are here to serve the people, care for people and make the right decision not just for one group – all people.”

What issues would you like to see them address?

“Well, let me say this: Joe Biden is the first presidential candidate, now president-elect and soon to be president that I’ve ever seen say the words ‘systemic racism’. You have never heard any other president talking about systemic racism. This is important because America has had an issue with racism for a long time, for as long as it has been a country. And it has never addressed systemic racism or truly acknowledged it from up top, from the powers that be in the White House. So that being addressed by that level of government is one of the changes I wanna see.”

Anything else?

“Yeah, making sure education is broadened. Focusing on academic and development is important, but what about the arts and different programs that would help develop inner city kids? Let’s expose them to different things. I’d also really like to see the criminal justice system reformed because that’s been a cycle that’s been destroying Black and Brown families for decades. Healthcare needs to be addressed too. I want people to have access to healthcare just like you have in the UK.”

What inspired the idea for your new album, ‘A Beautiful Revolution Pt.1’?

“I was asked to do a song for a children’s Netflix show called Bookmarks. I was part of the show reading Black and Brown children’s stories. So I started working on the song ‘Don’t Forget Who You Are’ with Karriem Riggins, Robert Glasper and PJ, and one night after working on it, I went home and listened to it and was like, ‘Man, this music feels good’. It was really something. And some of my team were saying how much they liked it and how they needed it. I was writing it from the perspective of someone talking to the babies, to the children, yet there were adults saying how much they needed it.

“Truthfully, I wasn’t thinking about making any music, but this made me think that I needed to make something for the people that was inspiring and uplifting. I wanted to make some music that gives people that hope, that good feeling, but it would be revolutionary music. I wanted it to be able to be played whether you’re protesting or in line voting.”

How do you define a beautiful revolution?

“For me, it’s when people can see God’s purpose, creation and love for all mankind in themselves and they channel it through their individual lives and affect change in others. Then we can live in a place where people see happiness. They can live in joy, in grace, in creativity and they can live in unity and in hope.”

On the track ‘Courageous’ you rap about taking part in this year’s Black Lives Matter protests and how you “found mine” while marching in the streets. What exactly did you find?

“When I say ‘I found mine‘ I’m really discussing two things: I’m saying that I’ve gotta make sure I get my heart and mind in the right place because we all need each other at the end of the day, but also there’s people out there that are riding for us. I found that this revolution is gonna take all of us. I saw white folks, Latino folks, Asian folks, Black folks, all protesting with strength and with hope. This matters to us.”

Stevie Wonder appears on the track, however he wasn’t credited at first. Why was that?

“Because I do some dumb shit sometimes.”

What do you mean?

“I was asked by my management team how we should credit Stevie on the record. I was like, ‘We can’t put ‘featuring Stevie Wonder’ because people are gonna think he’s singing on it ,and they might get mad when they realise he’s not. I should’ve just put ‘featuring Stevie Wonder’. It was a bad choice that I thought too hard and too long about.”

Lenny Kravitz appears on ‘A Riot In My Mind’. He hasn’t collaborated with many rappers – how did you get him on the track?

“Over the summer I went to a couple of Dave Chappelle’s Summer Camp comedy shows. This French photographer called Matthew who works with Dave, Robert Glasper and Lenny Kravitz was there. He would always be Facetiming with Lenny, and one time I was there and I was like, ‘Hey, we gotta do some music’. Lenny agreed, but I wasn’t sure if it was small talk or whatever. About three or four days later me, [Isaiah] Sharkey and Karriem came up with ‘A Riot In My Mind’. I thought Lenny would sound crazy on it so I sent it to him. It took a few days but once he really listened to it he called me and was so excited. He was like, ‘This is some progressive funk soul’. I’m just grateful to have one of the greats my record, especially as he’s someone who hasn’t done a lot of hip-hop.”

Chris Lake and Armand Van Helden deliver debut single from forthcoming EP, ‘The Answer’ – Dancing Astronaut

House music royalty Chris Lake and Armand Van Helden have at last joined their talents on the “The Answer,” which doubles as the debut single and title track from their forthcoming EP, due December 11 via Black Book and Astralwerks. “The Answer” is the first of four releases to come from the EP of the same name.

The track begins with a zestful, syncopated loop that samples Blind Truth’s Arthur Baker and Victor Simonelli-produced 1991 club hit, “Why Can’t We See,” featuring Tata and Toney. As the beat progresses to the lyrical tune of “we’ve got to come together,” funky synths flow with masterful fidelity, culminating in a unifying opening number to The Answer. Van Helden recalled the collaborative effort, stating, “the title track came together so quickly. We just followed the energy in the room.”

Tata and Toney’s uproarious vocals channel togetherness in a time of worldwide disconnection, emphasizing to the masses that “The Answer” is love. Stream below.

Bugzy Malone shares powerful new track ‘Don’t Cry’ and announces new album ‘The Resurrection’

Bugzy Malone has announced his latest album ‘The Resurrection’ and released new single ‘Don’t Cry’ – a collaboration with Dermot Kennedy.

The powerful new track sees the Manchester rapper dissecting his near-fatal motorbike crash, which occurred earlier this year, for the first time.

A video for the track, directed by Myles Whittingham, also depicts a tense boxing match to reflect Malone’s mental and physical journey since the accident.

I’m bleeding out, I’m bleeding out, my eyes are full of blood they’re closing up / My clothes are tight enough they cut them off, the skies aren’t bright enough to see the gods,” Bugzy raps on the new track.

‘The Resurrection’ will arrive on January 22, 2021.

It follows the release of ‘Doe’d Up’ and ‘M.E.N III‘, the third instalment of his ‘M.E.N’ series which debuted at #18 in the singles chart.

After his crash, Malone said he was “lucky to be alive” in a statement shared on social media.

He wrote: “They tell me I’m lucky to be alive but although I sustained serious injuries at the time I lost consciousness so I don’t remember much, what I do remember is the non-stop love, and just want to say thanks for all the well wishes and prayers you lot caught me off guard with all the support!”

The last music shared by Malone before his crash was ‘Boxes Of Bush’, taken from the soundtrack for Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen.
