Dzeko dishes out unremitting heat in exclusive mix for Dancing Astronaut [Q&A]

As ongoing COVID-19 health concerns continue to limit the live event circuit, Dancing Astronaut is delivering the answer to the question, “what’s the next best thing to catching Dzeko live?” That is, of course, a brand new mix from the Canadian tastemaker, crafted exclusively for Dancing Astronaut.

An esteemed electronic tastemaker who built a large part of his early pedigree under the Dzeko & Torres banner, Dzeko takes over Dancing Astronaut’s SoundCloud for one hour, delving into “golden age” classics and newer electronic staples and dance-pop hybrids alike. Pop-inflected house permeates the mix while intermittent doses of mashups add dance-worthy punctuation. Earth, Wind & Fire‘s “September” and FISHER‘s “Losing It” represent just one of the ear catching collisions that command attention on the Dancing Astronaut exclusive.

Dzkeo’s mix trails his March remix of Jessie Reyez‘s “LOVE IN THE DARK,” and most recently, his Keith Urban feature, “Both Still Young,” released in June. Listeners who first became acquainted with Dzeko’s name prior to the start of his solo career in 2016 will find his mixing acumen ever adept four years later on an output that, true to Dzeko’s aim, translates the energy of the live show arena into a re-creation that easily lends itself to replays. Preview the mix with Dancing Astronaut’s Q&A with Dzeko below.

Can you bring us into your headspace when you were crafting the mix. What sort of vibe were you striving for when putting it together?

Dzeko: “I would say my head space while making this mix, especially with what’s been going on in the world, was focused on all the fun times traveling and the crazy festivals I performed [at]. I was aiming to create mixes with those energetic vibes.”

Can streamers expect to encounter any surprise IDs in the mix?

Dzeko: “I’ll leave it to the element of surprise.”

You’ve released one new original and one remix this year. What else have you been working on?

Dzeko: “I’ve been using this extra time on my hands to work on a ton of new music. I am also focusing on collaborations with artists who aren’t in dance music. I’m looking to release something soon.”

Has COVID-19 affected the above at all?

Dzeko: “ABSOLUTELY, but I’ve still been using the time to hit the studio. I’m trying to work on new ideas, businesses, and stay focused for when things get back to normal.”

Thinking about your breakout as a solo artist in 2016, how has your sound changed in recent years?

Dzeko: “My sound has definitely changed over the years, especially after working on ‘Jackie Chan.’ I’ve learned to explore working with artists from different genres to create new sounds.”

Tara Jam Releases Debut Single “Motion Sickness” Out Now

Tara Jam releases her debut single “Motion Sickness” with a powerful music video to truly immerse you in the soul-stirring melodic lyricism and ethereal-yet-relatable sounds Tara provides us earthlings with. Both the song and official music video were released on Friday, October 16, fittingly at 11:11 a.m. EST!

Motion Sickness” derived from recalling the sentiments of being immersed in an unknown environment— intoxicated. Waking up with no sense of where you are or how you ended up there will inevitably result in internal chaos. Tara Jam fulfills the prophecy of her name, with Tara meaning ‘star’, as she emanates the light of the soul. She channels this light through her blend of artistry as a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, director, and photographer—setting her up as a Toronto and international sensation. Her Persian-Zoroastrian upbringing has infused her musicality with a spirit for connection and fidelity to authenticity.

“I wrote this song on a guitar, then my producer SPVDE (@acexfspvdes) created this beat almost immediately after I played it. The video incorporates scenes of visual distortion that complement the lyrics—directed by Charlton Visuals and I.” – Tara Jam

Tara Jam has been songwriting since the age of six, has studied for over a decade in the conservatory of music, and is of third generation musical talent. Her sound is inspired by alternative, lo-fi, pop, with hues of trap and acoustic. The auditory acuity and wide vocal range she has mastered gives her the ease to create and explore in all styles, all while preserving (like Jam) her soul-stirring, melodious lyricism. Dillon Francis’ Breakout Track “IDGAFOS” Celebrates 9 Years [LISTEN AGAIN]

Dillon Francis‘ breakout and classic track “IDGAFOS” is nearly a decade old and still a banger!

More than just a single, the Mad Decent release put Francis on the map as he broke through with his very own, distinct sound. Not only that, it sparked an entire movement — nobody knows Dillon Francis without knowing his catch phrase, “I Don’t Give A Fuck Or Shit.”

“IDGAFOS” officially released on October 18, 2011. The song famously sampled distorted vocals from Adam Levine off Gym Class Heroes‘ “Stereo Hearts.” Dillon dropped an official remix for the radio hit before he came out with this early masterpiece. The rest is history.

“IDGAFOS turns 9 today, thats blowing my mind!” Dillon just shared on social media. And it’s blowing our minds, too. “Thank you all for the love and support on this one,” he adds.

Listen again here and show Dillon some love!

BRONSON share part one of remix EP trilogy for self-titled debut LP

In an uncertain year that has vividly drawn out some artist’s most creative musical ambitions, ODESZA and Golden Features‘ BRONSON certainly sits at the top of that list. Following the collaborative effort’s self-titled debut LP in August as well as a preview of the project’s forthcoming remix edition, the two outfits are sharing BRONSON Remixes Nº.1 in full, the first of three parts in the trilogy.

In addition to Cassian’s previously released adaptation of “KNOW ME,” BRONSON Remixes Nº.1 employs the talents of four other noteworthy producers, including O’Flynn, Skream, Offaiah, and Tunnelvisions. All five names provide their own forward-thinking and distinct reimagining of ODESZA and Golden Features’ already masterful body of work, with “KNOW ME” receiving two total updates in addition to “VAULTS,” “HEART ATTACK” and last but not least, “DAWN.” Although no date has been publicly set in stone for BRONSON’s two ensuing EP releases, HAAi, Prospa, TSHA, Patrick Topping, and Hayden James will be among those appearing on the EPs’ respective tracklists in the coming months.

Miami Beach Lifts Curfew, Allowing Bars & Clubs to Stay Open Past Midnight

Miami Beach is lifting coronavirus COVID-19 restrictions that had the area under strict curfew.

Miami Beach City Manager Jimmy Morales announced the news on Sunday — no more county-wide curfew. The new measure allows Miami Beach clubs to stay open past midnight and serve alcohol past 8 PM. It all started with Tootsies strip club, which fought the restrictions in court and won.

Morale explained during his announcement — “In light of the court ruling enjoining the county from enforcing the curfew and after consulting our city attorney, I have directed city staff to suspend enforcement of the curfew in Miami Beach, including the 8 pm closure of liquor stores outside the MXE, pending appeal of the court order.”

From the sounds of it, the news couldn’t have come at a better time for some businesses on the verge of shutting down. This will put more bar staff back to work, more clubbers back to clubbing, and more DJs back in the booth.

Read on here.

Pixel Terror and NAZAAR hold nothing back in monstrous new bass cut, ‘Imperial’

Pixel Terror and NAZAAR are two of bass music’s most exciting acts, and now, the eight-bit bass heads have teamed up with the Carnage-supported beast from the East for an unforgettable bone-crushing bass number, “Imperial.”

“Imperial” is the latest of many prominent Pixel Terror hits this year, following their Monstercat release of a remix of Darude‘s Sandstorm, and their iconic debut EP, Upgrade. NAZAAR has been a force to be reckoned with in 2020 as well, releasing two singles, “Switchback” and “Frequency Simulation” with Never Say Die: Black Label, not to mention his monstrous collaboration with Soltan, “Walls Cave In.”

“Imperial” flawlessly intertwines both Pixel Terror’s and NAZAAR’s signature sound design expertise. Released via Bassrush Records, the track opens with ominous pads backed with a bright arpeggiator that leads into a beefy buildup. The breaks feature bright, animated bass shots tailored for the most aggressive of head banging and mosh pits. “Imperial” is set to cause massive damage in the club circuit pending its return. Oli Harper Teams Up With Krysta Youngs on “Do Better”

Oli Harper is relatively young in terms of career, releasing his debut single just last year. But already he’s had releases on Enhanced, BlueBird, Proximity, and now Thrive with his latest release, “Do Better” with Kyrsta Youngs.

The combination of sweet piano notes, sultry vocals, and upbeat rhythm come together for a wonderfully saccharine song that easily brings a smile to anyone’s face. We’ve seen this sort of construction from many artists before, but it’s a sort of timeless structure that producers can augment and switch up in little ways to keep it consistently fresh, and “Do Better” injects tiny bits of funk with the house to really make this one pop.

Check out “Do Better” below, out now on Thrive Music!
