Just four days after the November 20 release of i_o‘s “Castles In The Sky” remix, the electronic dance music community was left reeling with the news of the 30-year-old producer’s untimely death. As the shock that i_o, born Garrett Lockhart, could so soon be gone permeated through the dance music industry, i_o’s friends and professional colleagues took to social media to mourn the ever-budding talent whom the scene had so ardently embraced. JAUZ, deadmau5, ATTLAS and other sonic comrades pay tribute to i_o, whose skill and creativity will leave an indelible mark on electronic music.
Gone, but never forgotten; rest in peace, i_o.
I had never heard of i_o until the first show I ever played when I was 14. I didn’t know it then, but that set and that experience imbedded itself in my heart and mind and it took me to a whole new dimension. at a complete loss of words right now trying to process this. RIP. ??
garrett had a few projects, and when he pursued i_o, i knew it was going to be a hit. i regret not telling him more how much he inspired me and everyone else – i got jealous even at times because he pushed the dark shit better. he was a true fucking artist
I also want to specifically thank @deadmau5 because you were truly Garett’s number one inspiration. Getting to watch him be welcomed into the horde, tour with you and get the recognition from you he wanted so bad but would never admit to. You really changed his life
fuck no no no. I remember when I first met you in the lobby of icon collective and it was your first day of school there. We talked about how we both came from sports to do music and how excited we were for this journey. Rest In Peace Garrett ? @i_oofficial ?
I fucking love you so much, Garrett. If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t be where I am in music. Thank you for always lighting up every room you walked into and every stage you stepped on. I’m gonna miss you so much.
I’m at a loss for words man, I can’t believe we lost you Garrett..this really hurts. You were such an inspiration to so many and myself included, I’m gonna miss you brother, I love you man.. rest in peace @i_oofficialpic.twitter.com/ak7DK14omf
i always loved our time together man it was humble and just two guys, never i_o and attlas just garrett and jeff. coming back to talk to mellisa and me in the hotel room at 4am talking about how confusing everything can be. please rest in peace, we miss so many things about you
Going to miss you my dude, it was a real pleasure working with you and watching you succeed… may you find rest, and let your music live on into eternity. pic.twitter.com/wwKh0prn1q
I remember meeting Garrett at jauz’s old apartment with Sullivan king, ghastly and ryan Collins. No one was doing anything. Just some young producers trying to find our way. I_o was just the beginning and he was taken from us. Life is un fucking fair.
I remember way back in the Fawks days fucking around and making that song we did with worldstar samples. Years later you flipped it and became i_o. I was so happy for the success of your project. U had much more light to give the world. ❤️
