On December 31, 2020, the family of legendary rapper MF DOOM informed the public that Daniel Dumile had passed away two months prior on October 31. Frequently referred to as “your favorite rapper’s favorite rapper,” Dumile’s boundless creativity and talent had a transcendent impact not only on hip-hop, but also on music’s broader scale. As the year came to a close, artists and fans flooded Twitter with tributes to the masked villain known as MF DOOM; read just a few below.
I heard that some authors rewrote entire novels by the greats just to see how it felt
Denzel and I made UNLOCKED talking about DOOM every single day just trying to channel an ounce of the feeling
Shocked to hear the loss of the greatest MC ever. DOOM thank you for everything you put on wax. Our GTA track lives in our hearts and souls 4EVER. Photo from 2013. <3 pic.twitter.com/e9azXuuemN
MF DOOM passing made me see how much I LOVE hip-hop. Making hip-hop music. Listening to hip-hop music. Critiquing hip-hop music. Sharing hip-hop music. Forever MF DOOM.
RIP to the Metal Faced Terrorist, the gas faced arsonist, the inventor of a sub-genre, language, a style of color & animation. Hip-hop's greatest villain. The last surviving rap myth, killing mics since the womb till now, where he returns to where his brother went. DOOM. All caps pic.twitter.com/ZWI9rdB4fh
