MYSTIC delivers a refreshing change of pace with his debut album HUMAN, out today.
The album features a smooth hybrid of hip hop and EDM influence, exploring a vast range of sounds and moods within a cohesive space. It’s a stark change up from the aggressive bangers we’ve heard from MYSTIC in the past, as he delves into a more melodic, vocal-driven realm.
With a feature on every track, HUMAN, celebrates the voices of 10 different artists — 24HRS, J. Spooks, Jezzabell Doran, MixedMatches, JeanAguilera, TaliaStewart, MelissaBrooks, OBLUE, O’Zilla, Codeine Chriss, and RockieFresh. The productions are guided by MYSTIC’s newfound artistic vision, which he expands on in the interview below.
Standouts for us include “HEADACHE” featuring Jezzabell Doran, which reminds us of our favorite early 00s track with a new school level up. Also, “SUPERLOVE” featuring Mixed Matches and “UNFAIR” featuring Talia Stewart, as MYSTIC’s trap flair really shines through.
Listen here to find your own hidden gems and scroll down to catch up on all things MYSTIC!
First up, how are you holding up with everything going on in the industry?
With everything going on, it really made me step up my game and go harder, definitely took me out of my comfort zone. I was able to focus on my sound and my style to create something I’ve never created before. All things considered, I feel the lockdown allowed me to hone in on my craft and come closer to unlocking my potential in music. It also opened doors for me amidst the pandemic, which feels surreal to me being someone wanting to constantly prove themselves. It’s just the beginning, but it’s been ever the more motivating for me as of late.
Please, describe the MYSTIC sound and explain how it has shifted over the past year…
I definitely feel my sound has evolved drastically over the years. The sound of MYSTIC is a ‘chrome fantasy persona’ where I’m able to bring my ideas to life in one beautiful picture vs before. I feel I’m able to use my platform and take it in any direction without fear. It’s important for an artist to not feel limited within their creative circle and make whatever they wish to make without judgment or backlash. I try to treat every record as if it’s my last… I think with the struggles I’ve been through mentally along with the foundation that’s built, I have now found my sound and it’s only going to keep evolving from here. I’m super excited to see where this journey will go. We will fly high, together.
The album is a unique hybrid of hip hop / EDM influence… Can you tell us about that?
I spent a lot of time thinking about what I really want to do and the style I want to pursue. I felt the album should best reflect who I am, and to do that, I wanted to draw influences from styles I really resonate with musically as well as add my own flavor to each track. I grew up around different genres and that influenced me to become who I am today, I have no limits at this point is my life this album proves just that. I wanted to branch out to new horizons and showcase the vision and I have for the MYSTIC brand and the musical direction I’ve wanted to pursue since the beginning.
And every track has a feature! How was it working with so many artists on a single project?
It was amazing being able to work with each artist and create something we both loved. I felt elated being able to work with such great creative minds and make friendships in the process. Everyone on the album brought nothing but good energy, and put their hearts into it like me and that’s why I think this album is as great as it is. They all helped me fulfill the concept I had for the project to the fullest extent. I’m a huge fan of each one of these people and have limitless respect for them. It’s fun to make history with your influences, especially growing up listening to Rockie Fresh & 24HRS so I’m grateful to knock that out on my bucket list of accomplishments.
What else can we expect from MYSTIC in 2021?
In 2021 beyond, you should expect the unexpected… I’m sitting on the most impactful bodies of work I’ve ever created, and I’m excited to share with you there has been a tremendous amount of love flowing my way and around my team as well as good friends. It’s been a really refreshing time for me, and I’m thankful to have these blessings. It’s also been amazing to work with my friends and make innovative music with them. Finally, you can expect all types of genres from me these coming months! I feel the love I’ve been getting has enabled me to feel more comfortable making different music. I am extremely grateful and eager to give that energy back out to my supporters.
Anything else you want to plug?
I will continue doing my part to promote as positive a message as possible and try to spread as much positive energy and music that only reflects my best effort. I want to also say that protecting your energy and maintaining a healthy balance between caring for yourself and caring for others is important in securing a fulfilling life. In addition, I want to also say thanks to POST PRODUCTIONS, STUNNA POSSE and BADMOUTH for being the best team I could ever ask for in the game. I feel with such a team with me, there’s nothing we can’t achieve. Expect to see the MYSTIC name more and more as we shift into the rise of HUMAN.
Rising electronic music producer Chassi has arrived with his sophomore EP, the soaring 3-tracker Satellite.
The Los Angeles-based beatsmith wastes no time with the record’s emphatic titular track, a collaboration with fellow bass producer Prezzur. “Satellite” is a melodic dubstep bomb that masterfully blends euphoric saws akin to Seven Lions with the fluttering arpeggios of Chime. It’s a surefire standout from the EP and one that should prove to be one of the young gun’s more popular releases.
Chassi follows with the Sabz-assisted “I Feel Alone,” a monster future bass track that brilliantly employs classic trance leads in its blissful bridge, before tying a bow on Satellite with “Wait,” bringing it home in style with an aching banger. All in all, the EP is a three-track stunner that beautifully explores the deep, melodic realms of the bass music.
You can listen to Satellite below and find the EP on your go-to streaming platform here.
In a press statement, Chassi explained that the sound design of Satellite is a vehicle for storytelling. The cover art features the same warrior from the producer’s logo, which is meant to mirror the theme of courage in the face of adversity—a motif he has experienced in his own life.
Chassi has been on fire as of late, dropping tracks on Excision‘s Subsidia Records label and famed bass music imprint Circus Records, among many others. You can get familiar with his body of work via the links below.
After debuting his deep minimal banner in March 2020, Artmann has led a behemoth of a year powered by musical output, and evidently, he’s just getting started. With 2021 following in similar motion, the Amsterdam native’s release itinerary boasts a whooping four EPs including Keep The Funk Alive and No Time Left. Now, as he adds another to his collection, it’s suffice to say that Artmann’s progression so far has exceeded his Dancing Astronaut Artists to Watch nomination.
His latest, Power Of Will, drops off two singles and their equally groovy remix siblings, provided by Karimun and Romaino. The package encompasses a neat representation of his clean, yet funk-empowered approach to minimal house; he charts galactic synths, crisp drum loops, and funky bass lines all at once in “Power Of Will,” delivering a tight, yet dreamy production. The track’s counterpart “Deep Thoughts” derives an even simpler structure as robust percussion carry the pulse through a nearly eight minute journey.

As the COVID-19 pandemic has ushered producers into their home studios, Contra Scandal utilized quarantine to fully immerse himself in music. For six months, he dedicated his full mental capacity to create a collection of work that steers listeners through a rollercoaster of emotion. After meticulously crafting compositions that embody all of his production styles and techniques from the past decade, he is now ready to debut his album, Full Circle, available via Gravitas Recordings. Behold the enthralling universe of Full Circle as his signature violin tethers melodic elements together to transport listeners to all corners of the globe.
Contra Scandal encourages listeners to elevate their mind and lose their fear as “Immersion” initiates powerful bass crescendos and liquid basslines. Venture onto a daring “Escapade” as mysterious strings lure travelers into a cavern of psychedelic oscillations. “Mile High Livin” fondly reflects on the exuberant nightlife of Colorado, expressed through attention-grabbing hip-hop vocals and versatile bass backdrops.
Atmospheres slow down in “A Calling” as remote vocals illustrate Contra Scandal’s experience growing up an only child in the Redwoods of Kings Mountain, California. Voyagers shortly encounter a “Snake Charmer,” who forewarns those who attempt to harm him. Featuring Spirah’s mesmerizing vocals, the two reflect on past faults, vowing through deep, dark, and dynamic low end. Resume the dusky path with “Rebel” as edgy instrumentation accompanies wanderers through a murky tunnel. Approaching “The Remaining Light,” listeners near the final destination as warm auras welcome them home. Morillo presents an engaging epilogue with his “Mile High Livin” remix, as cascading dubs and distant vocals big adieu to the vigorous record.

Squid have shared a new track called ‘Paddling’ – you can listen to it below.
Premiering on BBC Radio 1 tonight (March 16), the song is the second taste of the Brighton band’s forthcoming debut album ‘Bright Green Field’, which will arrive May 7 via Warp Records.

The six-minute ‘Paddling’ is built around a drum machine loop and pulsing synth line, and was written from two different perspectives “about the dichotomy between simple pleasures and decadent consumerism”.
“Recounting a familiar scene from Wind In The Willows, the song reminds us that although we are humans, we are ultimately animals that are driven by both modern and primal instincts, leading to vanity and machismo around us in the everyday,” Squid said.
Speaking of the Dan Carey-produced ‘Bright Green Field’, drummer/lead vocalist Ollie Judge explained: “The tracks illustrate the places, events and architecture that exist within it. Previous projects were playful and concerned with characters, whereas this project is darker and more concerned with place – the emotional depth of the music has deepened.”
Squid will embark on a UK and Ireland headline tour in support of the record this September/October, having previously postponed some of those shows due to the coronavirus crisis.
Check out the full list of dates below:
September 7 – Concorde 2, Brighton 9 – Marble Factory, Bristol 10 – Albert Hall, Manchester 23 – Printworks, London 24 – The Crossing, Birmingham 25 – Rock City, Nottingham 27 – NUSU, Newcastle 28 – SW3, Glasgow 29 – Empire, Belfast 30 – Button Factory, Dublin, Ireland
October 3 – Tramshed, Cardiff 4 – 1865, Southampton 5 – The Phoenix, Exeter

Elon Musk is capitalizing on the NFT craze by selling his original track dedicated to NFTs as an NFT.
The Tesla / SpaceX CEO billionaire just dropped an EDM track about NFTs and within 24 hours it’s worth over $1.1 million. This news comes as he’s recently declared himself the “Technoking of Tesla,” which the world has yet to fully grasp.
The “NFT” production doesn’t exactly reinvent the wheel in terms of dance music, but it fits the modern tech house trend with a clean, bubbly beat and proper rave synths. Lyrics match the track’s intention: NFT / For your vanity / Computers never sleep / It’s verified / It’s guaranteed. The track’s appeal, however, is not as much about its musicality as it is about Elon Musk releasing an NFT.
Musk previously dipped into dance music with his solo original “Don’t Doubt ur Vibe,” which we’d argue has more personality and authenticity. It’s obvious he has an affinity for dance music, so we’re interested to see how this passion manifests.
The NFT is available on sale via Valuables here, with the highest bid currently sitting at $1,121,000.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, it wasn’t uncommon to find music industry executives, artists, and other key players in the business hanging out at bars, music venues, and industry conferences. However, with the unprecedented closure of most live entertainment spaces, the industry has been forced to find a new hangout spot.
Launched in April 2020, Clubhouse was there to save the day, providing a safe space for professionals to get together and continue their conversations.
What is Clubhouse?
Clubhouse is a social networking platform that allows users to host and join real-time, audio-only conversations. The app features the communal interaction of social media apps like Instagram and combines it with the informational aspects of digital seminars often found on Zoom.
Users can jump from chat room to chat room and participate in live, panel-style discussions. Nothing is recorded, which lifts the pressure for speakers to remain formal and appropriate in their language. Almost like a phone call, the resulting conversations are casually intimate and unrestricted. The app is still in beta and is currently invite-only, but has begun to attract international attention as big names such as Mark Zuckerburg, Drake, and Oprah Winfrey continue to join.
Why has Clubhouse become so popular?
Despite its exclusivity, Clubhouse has begun to gain mainstream popularity. At the beginning of February, Tesla founder ElonMusk hopped in a Clubhouse room to interrogate Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev on the recent GameStop stock scandal. The room quickly maxed out at its limit of 5,000 users and the app saw over a million downloads in the ensuing 10 days.
In a technological world oversaturated with carefully curated, strategically planned content, Clubhouse has broken through by providing real-time, raw material without the pressure of a camera. It gives users the opportunity to concentrate on hearing each other’s voices without the distraction of visuals seen on traditional social media platforms. A 2019 study by Stockholm University looked at the power of the human voice:
“When people use the voice to communicate, listeners do not only interpret the words that are said, the verbal content, but also the information contained in how the words are said, the nonverbal content,” according to the study’s findings. “A large portion of the nonverbal content of the voice is thought to convey information about the emotional state of the speaker.”
With a $1 billion valuation, Clubhouse has emerged as one of the world’s largest social media startups.

Hearing someone’s voice carries significantly heavier weight than reading their text messages, emails, or Instagram captions because it conveys emotion and elicits a visceral response. Clubhouse focuses specifically on human interaction via speaking, encouraging listeners to truly hear what the speaker is saying and feeling. This valuable form of communication leads to a stronger, more human connection and therefore more meaningful conversations.
Clubhouse’s ability to foster such a casual, open environment also cultivates a level of intimacy that people have longed for due to isolation contrived by the pandemic. It’s easy to jump from conversation to conversation, listen in for as long as you care to, and connect with new people in real time—almost like the atmosphere of a networking conference—but digital. By promoting exploration, growth, and creation, Clubhouse creates a generally positive learning culture open to all who are willing to maintain respectful and effective communication. The platform opens up a whole new world of information and networking to its users via its diverse range of people, subjects, industries, and interests.
How is Clubhouse being used in the music industry?
On February 8th, Timbaland’s premier music platform Beatclub hosted a Clubhouse room featuring Scott Storch, Mike Dean, Jozzy, and the music producer himself, among others. The group of acclaimed musicians discussed tips for producers, the future of production, and shared their own experiences in the industry, attracting thousands of listeners as they provided exclusive insights. Dozens of rooms like these are hosted every week, with top music executives and artists discussing trends, opinions, and advice for navigating the industry.
These chat rooms have become an essential part of networking in pandemic culture. Most people join the app looking to broaden their network in some way. Due to the intimate nature of Clubhouse, it’s convenient to have informative discussions and meet new people on it than other social media apps. Strong conversations lead to strong connections, and following up on these discussions has become a huge part of meeting people in the industry. Several music industry clubs offer special rooms dedicated solely to networking and connecting. Sometimes people even host or join these rooms looking to hire interns and new employees.
However, these panel-like chat rooms are not the only ones amassing significant audiences among music industry Clubhousers. Several other original ideas have emerged from the artistic community as a way to spearhead creative discussion, such as virtual jam sessions, songwriting workshops, album premiere parties, and radio station-like rooms where DJs can play tracks. Unsurprisingly, the music business has found a multitude of innovative ways to utilize Clubhouse.
Mark Zuckerburg, Drake, and Oprah Winfrey have all joined Clubhousem which is said to have 2 million active weekly users.
Clubhouse provides many opportunities for artists to take advantage of their platform.
Finding collaborators
Clubhouse’s vast array of creators and business professionals offers a huge opportunity for connecting with potential collaborators. Whether an artist is looking for producers and other artists to make music with or hoping to connect with managers, A&R executives, and indie labels, the app is a great place to look. However, it’s important to participate in conversations and find natural connections. The platform is predicated on genuine, authentic communication, so taking to it for purely promotional purposes will not breed good results.
In order to find collaborators, it’s important to build out your personal profile. You can strengthen your profile by using a professional headshot for your profile picture, creating a concise, professional bio, following people you know, and connecting your account to your other social media channels. Doing so creates familiarity and gives people a better idea of who you are.
Connecting with fans
Because Clubhouse allows users to connect with each other in real time, it automatically increases the element of tangible human interaction that’s missing on most social media platforms. Artists can use this opportunity to connect with their fans and form sincere relationships with them.
There are many creative ways to engage fans on this platform, including hosting a chatroom with other artists, premiering new music, having a meet-and-greet with fans, and writing songs live and inviting people to be part of the process. Clubhouse provides a great way for fans to get to know the real you, in real time.
Clubs
Joining clubs is one of the easiest ways to connect with people and find relevant conversations on Clubhouse. Clubs are generally very open and supportive environments as long as you are respectful of others and follow the club’s rules. Groups such as Music Industry Network, Music HQ, Music Industry Execs, New Music Review + Music Business 101, and The 808 Wave host rooms for networking, advice, panel discussions, listening parties, and more.
The Future of Clubhouse
As Clubhouse continues to attract elite musicians, there’s no doubt that it will continue to grow in importance in the music industry. As of February 2021, the app is said to have 2 million active weekly users and recently received a $1 billion valuation, making it one of the world’s largest social media startups.
After receiving a notable investment from Silicon Valley-based venture-capital firm AndreesenHorowitz, Clubhouse recently announced plans to invest in creators, including a Creator Grant Program and monetization features such as tipping, subscriptions, and ticketing. Considering the app is currently in beta version, now is the ideal time to start building a Clubhouse community before it becomes oversaturated.
In November of 2020, Far Out gave flight to Beyond The Horizon. The Ophelia Records label debut, made across four inclusions, constituted the emergent tastemaker’s Ally Thorn, RØRY, Heather Sommer, and Monika Santucci-assisted breakout on Seven Lions‘ platform. Fast forward four months after the EP’s November 5, 2020 premiere on Dancing Astronaut, and Far Out and Dancing Astronaut can be found aligning once again, forging another alliance that qualifies for “must-listen” status: a glittering guest mix.
Our wager? We won’t mince words—Far Out will be melodic enthusiasts’ next favorite ascendant act. Sitting at just over one hour’s runtime, Far Out’s exclusive mix adds a bolder outline to what the dance-versed currently know about his magnetic sound. As on his Beyond The Horizon EP, Far Out’s penchant for toplines supplied by female vocalists, bass punctuation, and emotive chord progressions is potently apparent on the mix.
The producer, who not only made his live debut at Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas‘ 2019 iteration but also supported Illenium on his 2019 North American tour, said of the endeavor,
“This mix represents a blend of cinematic and melodic music that I’ve been exploring with the project. Although this past year was a challenge for everyone, I’m very grateful to have connected with new and existing fans online and how positivity always carries the day. Looking forward for what 2021 and onwards has in store, and much love to Dancing Astronaut for the continuous support.”
Expect a diverse array of sounds to euphorically collide. Spoilers include the Zedd remix of Skrillex‘s “Breakn’ A Sweat,” Far Out’s own “Apex,” Seven Lions’ “Only Now,” among Beyond The Horizon looks and original material from other melodic Jedi. Stream episode 137 of The Radar below.
