Jai Wolf Drops His First Remix In 4 Years For “blue” by keshi

Preoccupied with his own original work, it’s been four years since Jai Wolf has released a remix of his own, the last being “Something Just Like This” by The Chainsmokers in 2017. Now, he’s back with a stellar remix of “blue” by keshi.

Starting off with heartfelt, raw guitar chords, keshi’s voice comes in modulated and pitched, very, very different than the original. Adding a swelling melody on top, and then the drums ahead of the drop, it quickly becomes a synth-laden, synthwave symphony and its beauty cannot be overstated.

Toward the second drop, he overlays the pitched vocals with keshi’s original voice for a wonderful, unexpected harmony.

On the remix, Jai Wolf said, “I gravitated towards ‘Blue’ cause I felt like it perfectly captured what I was feeling during the middle of quarantine last summer. It’s an honor to remix Keshi, who I’ve admired for quite some time!”

Jai Wolf erases four-year remix pause with nostalgic reimagining of keshi’s ‘blue’ – Dancing Astronaut

Not even a month removed from commemorating a five full years since Jai Wolf‘s entrance into electronic music with an “Indian Summer” anniversary re-release, the Foreign Family associate is now stepping up to a successive milestone. It’s been a similarly outstretched lapse in time since Jai Wolf’s last non-original—nearly four years to be exact—and he’s now resetting that clock by working his inimitable magic on keshi’s “blue.”

Prefacing the reimagining with a self-deprecating poke at how the remix wouldn’t necessarily phase his routinely episodic release schedule, Jai Wolf ended the 33-month intermission since his “Something Just Like This” spin in grand fashion. Jai Wolf educes his vintage tack on the “blue” adjustment, pitching up keshi’s vocals and coupling it with a generous measure of his wistful synths for a gratifying entrance to the new year, hoisting the original to an entirely different degree of transcendent.

Ariel Pink dropped by record label following attendance at Washington Trump rally

Ariel Pink has been dropped by his record label, Mexican Summer, following the musician’s involvement at the Trump rally in Washington D.C. on Wednesday January 6.

On January 7, a photo of Pink – real name Ariel Rosenberg – at the rally was shared in a private Instagram post. The picture also included singer John Maus and director Alex Lee Moyer. Pink subsequently confirmed he had attended Capitol protests to “peacefully” support US President Donald Trump.

Rosenberg, however, directly denied being part of the mob which later stormed the Capitol building.

In a tweet posted today (January 8), Brooklyn-based label Mexican Summer said that “due to recent events, Mexican Summer and its staff have decided to end our working relationship with Ariel Rosenberg AKA Ariel Pink moving forward.”

The label had released Rosenberg’s latest album, ‘Dedicated to Bobby Jameson’, and was set to release ‘Odditties Sodomies Vol. 1’, ‘Sit n’ Spin’, ‘Odditties Sodomies Vol. 3’ and ‘Scared Famous/FF>>’ on January 29 as the final instalments in its Ariel Archives series.

On January 6, a large number of Trump supporters forced their way into the Capitol building following a rally in the US capital of Washington D.C. The building, which is the seat of US Government, went into lockdown, with politicians being evacuated. Five were killed in the riots.

Responding to a Twitter user who drew attention to his attendance, Rosenberg said: “I was in dc to peacefully show my support for the president. i attended the rally on the white house lawn and went back to hotel and took a nap. case closed.”

Previously, Rosenberg has been criticised for saying gay marriage “pisses him off”, that he respects the Westboro Baptist Church and claiming it is “not illegal to be racist”.

Apashe Offers Up Five Stunning “Distance” Remixes With KOAN Sound, Buunshin, & More

Apashe’s Renaissance was named our #2 album of 2020 and for good reason — it’s that fucking good. Among the tracks therein lies “Distance,” the second single on the album, featuring Geoffroy, and once of the first tracks that truly dives into the theme of the project.

Following the album’s release, “Distance” is the first to receive its own official remix pack, with new interpretations from Volac, KOAN Sound, Buunshin, Macky Gee, and Pushing Daizies.

Volac gives the single a bouncy, future house vibe; KOAN Sound does what KOAN Sound does best with distorted synths and glitchy effects; Buunshin takes his time to build an incredible atmosphere and then drops a wild drum & bass beat; and Pushing Daizies gets vibey.

But Macky Gee absolutely takes the cake on this one, taking the energy to 11 and putting some truly insane synths on top of the classically-laden original. The rhythm at the offset already proves energetic and it only gets more intense from there, wasting no time getting to the meat of the track with wildly distorted bass and a pounding flow.

Check out all the remixes below!

Michael Anthony says he never got to reconcile with Eddie Van Halen

Former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony has spoken in a new interview about how he never got a chance to reconcile with Eddie Van Halen before the legendary guitarist’s untimely passing last October.

In the latest episode of the Talkin’ Rock With Meltdown podcast, Anthony discussed the passing of his former bandmate, the first time Anthony saw him perform, as well as his relationship with another former bandmate, Sammy Hagar.

Van Halen passed away on October 6, 2020, aged 65, after a battle with throat cancer.

When asked about his relationship with Van Halen, Anthony – who had reportedly not been on good terms with the axeman since 2007 – said: “We actually hadn’t spoken, and unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to. And, you know, it kind of bothers me, because we had some issues that were never resolved. But, I mean, what can you do?

“We were on track [for] a reunion, which I’m really sad that it never happened. But, you know, life and the show goes on.”

Van Halen’s song, Wolfgang, claimed just last month that the band would never reunite without his father, saying, “I can confidently say I will NEVER replace my father in Van Halen and tour around the world disrespecting my father’s memory.”

Anthony continued in his interview, speaking about the first time he saw Van Halen perform live.

“I remember I was impressed because they played,” he said.

“They must’ve played the whole WHO ‘Live At Leeds’ or whatever, or any of the classic CREAM stuff they played, Eddie played the lead stuff note for note.

“Back then, when you’re a kid like that, that’s very impressive to see somebody playing like that.”

Anthony, along with former vocalist Hagar, shared a video tribute to Van Halen shortly after his passing. In it, the pair opened up about rehearsing the band’s songs for the first time since hearing news of Van Halen’s death.

“After the unfortunate thing that happened with Eddie Van Halen yesterday, which was, for Mike and I, just was like getting hit by a freaking Mack Truck, kinda took the wind out of the sails,” Hagar said in the video.

“A Van Halen song never felt so hard to sing and play in my life.”

Upon Van Halen’s death, Hagar came forward to share that he and the guitarist had rekindled their friendship.

“Eddie and I had been texting, and it’s been a love fest since we started communicating earlier this year,” he said.

Later, Hagar added that Van Halen’s death would have been “way too much” for him to process had the pair not settled their feud earlier last year.

Laxcity Shares “The Way That I Do”, His First Single In Over a Year

Laxcity has returned from a year and a half hiatus with a new single “The Way That I Do” ft. EMIA. You may recall that he wasn’t sitting around doing nothing over that break though. Justin Beiber actually used one of Laxcity’s samples in his album and it caused a bit of a viral moment for the UK based artist. Now Laxcity is back to releasing original music and I couldn’t be happier.

“The Way That I Do” sees Laxcity team up with familiar collaborator EMIA to create musical bliss yet again. Their combination is something to behold as EMIA’s angelic voice pair magically with Laxcity’s ethereal soundscapes. With his Disconnect EP due out in a few weeks there’s plenty more to expect from one of my favorite producers.

Oliver Heldens shares official remix of Above & Beyond’s ‘Thing Called Love’ – Dancing Astronaut

Oliver Heldens can newly be found handling remix honors for Above & Beyond‘s all-time trance classic, “Thing Called Love,” featuring Richard Bedford. The remix was first previewed at the British trio’s Group Therapy 400 livestream in September 2020, in which the group celebrated 20 years of Anjunabeats. Speaking on his remix, Heldens said,

“It’s a bit different than what you’d expect from me I guess, but I wanted to keep the trancy vibe of the original alive in this new remix. I hope you like it 🙂 ?? #AnjunaFamily #AboveAndBeyond #Trance

On his spin, Heldens gracefully steps away from his signature sound to pay homage to the original’s upbeat trance orientation, refitting the framework resonating synths, anthemic melodies, and a roaring bassline. “Thing Called Love” was originally issued on Anjunabeats Volume 8 in 2010, but listeners can experience it anew now, thanks to Heldens.

PREMIERE: BILLYTHEKID releases debut ‘OUTLAW’ EP on GRVDNCR

The fresh and mysterious face of electronic music, BILLYTHEKID, who’s name is inspired by the notorious gunfighter and outlaw from the American Old West just released his debut EP Outlaw on GRVDNCR.

The 3-track aptly titled Outlaw EP stays true to BILLYTHEKID for all of the reasons we love the producer. The EP is mysterious, diverse and danceable all the while showcasing BILLYTHEKID’s unique style of bass music. All 3 of the records are original pieces of art with no collaborations or features.

Outlaw starts with title track of the EP, ‘OUTLAW’ where all of a sudden the song beings to paint wild west themed soundscapes atop an enchanting melody and drowned-out vocal samples. As OUTLAW builds up you are introduced to BILLYTHEKID’s immaculate sound design, screeching synths, and aggressive baselines littered throughout the record. On ‘GLOCK’ BILLYTHEKID does not waste his listeners time and immediately begins the record with crunchy chords and punchy percussion. As the record builds up metallic and squeaky sounding synths takeover making for an anthemic bass heater. Finally on ‘POWER,’ BILLYTHEKID takes things into overdrive all the while keeping things short and sweet. Opening up the break with a mysterious almost haunting sound BILLYTHEKID evokes a sense of fear on POWER and then all of a sudden a quick vocal sample screams “You don’t have any power, let me teach you how to use it.” Rolling baselines and glitchy ear candy throughout the quick one minute and thirty nine second record take listeners on a quick but exhilarating journey through sound.
