Nurko follows through with almighty latter end to two-part Proximity original, ‘Blindspot’ with Devon Baldwin – Dancing Astronaut

Considering the pure meltdown of a year that 2020 has ostensibly confirmed to be, Nurko is doing everything in his power to round the last 12 months off on a positive note. The recent inductee to Dancing Astronaut‘s Artists to Watch in 2021 roster is now stacking onto his placement’s rationale, consummating his dynamic Proximity release, “Blindspot” with Devon Baldwin by joining its spirited first half together with a more heavy-hitting companion.

It’s legitimately insoluble to determine whether to side with the former or latter portion of “Blindspot,” but both halves hold their own in an immaculate light. While Nurko’s initial outing exercised a different, yet still electrifying, end to to the flourishing talent’s tried-and-true melodic colors, the successive slice elevates “Blindspot” to an entirely separate stratosphere. Nurko unhinges the single off its mellowed-out tether, retaining Baldwin’s gallant lyrics and swapping the original piece’s more decompressed tone for a rip-roaring progression and melodic dubstep zenith, summarizing precisely why Nurko has been held in such high regards throughout the year.

Grimes shares new ‘Miss Anthropocene’ artwork on streaming services

Grimes has changed the cover of her album ‘Miss Anthropocene’ on streaming services – see the new artwork below.

In April, Claire Boucher shared an Instagram photo of the cover now seen online, calling it the “original” album cover, and her favourite version.

“I polled a bunch of ppl and everyone said not to use it (??),” she wrote at the time, “but I wish I trusted my gut. I fucking LOVE this painting.

“Maybe there’s a way to utilise it still,” she added at the time. “(very open to ideas if u guys have ideas). I also love commissioning and/ or buying prints and art. It’s something I just got into this year. It’s a great way to support visual artists during the quarantine.”

Speaking of the cover that was released on digital and physical versions of ‘Miss Anthropocene’ upon its release in February, Grimes added: “I love what we did w Ryder and Gmunk. Not hating on that just wish I’d even kept this as the illustration in the program maybe instead of my drawing which.. is fine but not blowing my mind haha.”

See the new artwork for ‘Miss Anthropocene’ below.

This month, NME crowned Grimes’ ‘Miss Anthropocene’ one of the best albums of 2020. The review read: “Such is her refusal to be pigeonholed, after the blissful art-pop of 2015’s ‘Art Angels’, Grimes’ only option was to take a sharp left turn.

“Her fifth album was a much denser, more claustrophobic effort that gleamed like dark chrome, reflecting the looming climate crisis and turmoil in her personal life as her relationship with Tesla CEO, Elon Musk put her firmly under the celeb spotlight. This was Grimes trying to make sense of her changing world.”

Last week, Grimes shared a new song called ‘Delicate Weapon’, lifted from the soundtrack to new video game Cyberpunk 2077.

Grimes joined the likes of SOPHIE, Shygirl, HEALTH, Let’s Eat Grandma and more, who all contributed to the game’s soundtrack under aliases.

As well as releasing the new song, Grimes is a character in the game under the alias Lizzy Wizzy that players can interact with.

Zeds Dead and PEEKABOO set loose sought-after ID, ‘POWA’ – Dancing Astronaut

Dubstep royalty Zeds Dead and PEEKABOO have just released “POWA,” yet another head-banging heatwave. The track has been one of the most sought-after IDs of the past nearly two years after it originally premiered in Zeds Dead’s Ultra Music Festival 2019 set.

Structurally, “POWA” is everything fans could expect and more from Deadbeats with its intense build-ups and of course, heavy bass. The track is a balanced combination of both Zeds Dead and PEEKABOO’s wonky and distinguished sound, and after hearing the track blasted in sets and livestreams for more than a year, fans are understandably elated to finally receive the full tune.

The Deadbeats boys have been on a rampage this past year, releasing singles, remixes, collaborative albums, and ID packages alike. It’s likely the prolific producers are not done with 2020 yet, so stay tuned for more, and in the meantime, stream “POWA” below.

Travis Scott to release his own alcoholic beverage, Cacti

Travis Scott has announced his latest entrepreneurial endeavour — a brand of seltzer, Cacti.

Scott took to Instagram on Friday (December 18) to tease the first official shots of the product. The accompanying caption said, “[I] remember me and the gang use [sic] to sneak my pops drinks out the back of the crib. I Remember my first night pure rage with the squad!!”

The same post goes on to explain that the ‘Antidote’ rapper has been working on the range for some time, with the first lot of flavours set to roll out in early 2021.

Though Scott’s social media isn’t rife with details, the Cacti website has more information, explaining the drink is an agave-spiked seltzer made with “natural flavours” and “100% premium blue agave from Mexico”. The interactive, desert-inspired visuals for which Scott is known are also a feature of the site.

According to Billboard, Scott has partnered with brewing company Anheuser-Busch to launch Cacti.

This isn’t the first endeavour Scott has embarked on outside of music this year.

In October, Scott announced he had teamed up with Sony through his Cactus Jack brand – through whom the forthcoming beverage is being put out – for a “strategic creative partnership” toward the launch of the company’s latest console, PlayStation 5.

That creative partnership, according to Forbes, could involve “a cobranded console and perhaps even a game designed by Scott”.

A month after his initial partnership announcement, Scott unveiled a line of PlayStation-branded shoes with Nike, with whom he also has a partnership.

The neutral-toned shoe features the PlayStation logo emblazoned on the heel and sole.

Nitti Gritti & Dr. Fresch Team Up For Boisterous Collab, “Cold Day in Hell”

It’s been well established that Nitti Gritti can produce damn near anything he sets his mind to, whether it’s psy, house, bass, or whatever. Teaming up with Dr. Fresch, the two sample “Twinz” by Big Pun for “Cold Day in Hell,” a sci-fi-influenced house tune that is sure to have you pondering the meaning of life while you cut shapes on the floor.

“Cold Day in Hell” is an interesting blend of some oscillating sci-fi arpeggios, classic hip hop bars, and devastatingly dirty future bass synths. It’s something that is both entirely on brand for this sort of collaboration and also surprising enough that we would never say, “Yeah, this is exactly what they’d make.”

Malaa polishes ‘Re-Edition’ of ‘Illegal Mixtape Vol. 3’ featuring new material – Dancing Astronaut

Hot off the Confession presses comes a re-issue of Malaa‘s Illegal Mixtape Vol. 3 that arrives with parcel-expanding intent. After fastening the ribbon around the dastardly package of dark house hitters in mid-October and delivering its first extra with Habstrakt earlier this December, Malaa is re-upping the Illegal activity with two new tracks. The aforementioned numbers, “Onyx” and “My Mind,” sonically rub shoulders with menacing mixtape must-haves such as Malaa’s own “Hell” and “Don’t Talk,” granting Drymer and ToMix access to one of the hottest house parties in the electronic circuit: Illegal Mixtape Vol. 3 [Re-Edition].

The two newcomers—and the mixtape at large—constitute music to “rob a bank” to (to take a page out of Malaa’s descriptive playbook). Those who find their appetites whet for more Malaa can revisit the Parisian producer’s recent back-to-back set with DJ Snake, Secret Room, here.

The Distillers are already planning the follow-up to their forthcoming new album

The Distillers are gearing up to release their fourth studio album sometime next year, and already they’re planning its follow-up.

  • READ MORE: Fuck yeah, why it’s awesome that The Distillers are back

The punk veterans reunited in 2018, before dropping two new songs ‘Man Vs Magnet’ and ‘Blood In Gutters‘ and embarking on a run of acclaimed festival shows – including a glorious set at Reading Festival 2019 (marking their first UK gig in 15 years).

After teasing that a new album was due in 2019 – their first since 2003’s ‘Coral Fang – frontwoman Brody Dalle earlier this year suggested that the record could be released by the time of their Download 2020 appearance and summer European tour.

However, due to the coronavirus, the album has been pushed back and an official release date has not yet been confirmed.

Speaking in a new interview, Dalle shared when the band’s new album might be released, and she added that they’re not wasting any time as they’re already planning another record.

“We’re booked up the wazoo to tour, but nobody really knows what’s going to happen,” she told Spin, after being asked what their plans are for 2021. “It’s kind of a crapshoot and the goalposts keep moving, so we’re just kind of flying by the seat of our pants. You know as much as I do now.”

She added: “I really have no idea what’s going to happen, but yes, we have a record coming out — hopefully sooner than later. And at this point, we’re pretty much ready to make another record too.”

Back in 2018, The Distillers marked their comeback with a reunion gig in San Diego – their first in over 12 years.

Sharing a photo of a branded jacket on Instagram, Dalle wrote: “14 years later and the jacket still fits…it’s been an emotional rollercoaster to get here but I’m grateful for it all. I’m not afraid of a little old ride. Bring it. It was emotional tonight , me , us, you , the peeps on the street. I’m loving it and you. The Distillers feels so right. Thank you.”
