Rinzen executes heavy progressive rework of Fatima Hajji’s ‘Kua’

In his newest delivery, Rinzen takes on his heaviest piece of work yet with a new remix of the title track from Madrid-hailing techno selector Fatima Hajji‘s Kua EP. Derived from Hajji’s two-cut project, the eponymous track receives a dark and dusky reconstruction reflective of Rinzen’s cerebral, world-building intuition. Preceded by his Desert Hearts Black solo debut, Resonate, the latest rework finds the rising Los Angeles act delve into deeper territory as he makes his inaugural appearance on the famed Octopus Recordings.

Transforming the ominous disquiet of the original into nuanced invigoration, Rinzen interprets the techno bender as a progressive machine in his restrained execution. With manipulated bass lines serving as rhythmic drivers, the remix crafts patient layers of intensity as immersive sonics paint the illusive production into a warehouse-ready cut. In his minimalistic approach to Hajji’s “Kua,” Rinzen spotlights unyielding momentum and simultaneously stays true to his signature craftsmanship, wielding dexterous synth work in his melodic perception as he ventures into the sinister techno landscape.

Valentino Khan Turns Back Time With ‘French Fried’ EP

Pulling inspiration from his formative years listening to French electro, Valentino Khan showcases an incredible level of production on his newest ‘French Fried’ EP. Following singles ‘Blackmail,’ ‘Deathproof,’ and ‘Division,’ Valentino dives into the depths of his influences on his forthcoming French Fried EP. The aptly-titled project is a nod to the early years of French electronica and the birth of blog-house. Originally introduced to the genre by his brother over a decade ago, the EP is a deeply personal opus rooted in unwavering inspiration.

Valentino Khan – French Fried EP

This body of work was heavily inspired by my first exposure to dance music.  French artists played a huge role in creating sounds that drew me into the genre.  When the first wave of this hit America, it impacted me by pushing boundaries in a unique way.  I hope to continue that innovative spirit not only with this music, but with all my future releases as well.  Enjoy.” – Valentino Khan

Martin Garrix Reveals Custom Postage Stamp That Gives Access to Private Augmented Reality Performance

One fact you may not know about Martin Garrix is that he has a special affinity towards stamps. While he’s referenced it in the past by naming his label STMPD RCRDS, the connection actually comes from his youth, when he grew up with a father who owned a stamp auction house.

In a true full-circle moment, the world-renowned electronic music artist has now been honored with his very own stamp through PostNL.

Your EDM Premiere: Deep Bass Rising Star Forbidden Society to Drop Two Diverse Blasters

While the landscape in his home country of Czechia (fmly. Czech Republic) is dominated by neurofunk and tekno (a hybrid of gabber hardcore and techno not to be confused with traditional techno), Forbidden Society has carved out a toe hold for his own style of deep bass rollers and unmitigated genre-swapping both at home and abroad. His last LP on his own label on Forbidden Society Recordings Liminal Point and his breakthrough EP on Vision called Subworld bounced back and forth between drum and bass, halftime, techno and dubstep like he was playing double dutch.

Now after another Vision release, a snare-and-sound-design-filled collab track with Audio called “Iris” on the label’s Mission 01 compilation, the genre-bending counties for Forbidden Society (FS) with a new dual single due out this Thursday, October 22. The 174 BMP techno (not tekno) track “Hypno” is already streamable ton FS’s Soundcloud page while he deigned to premiere “Spectral,” another D&B masterpiece here with us at Your EDM.

Another thing that sets FS apart especially from what’s popular in neuro and techno right now is that while other artists seem to all collectively have all decided to work on their melodies and higher register synths, only FS and a few others have decided to continue pushing the boundaries of bass and sub bass, sound design and snares. There’s lots more fun to be had down in the low registers and these two tracks prove it.

“Hypno,” per its beat and speed, is very heavy and moves very quickly. It seems quite minimal, as in the foreground there’s really only that blisteringly fast beat and some sub bass synths but there’s a lot going on in the background. The sound design therein contains layers and layers of echoey, sine wave deep tones that flow in and out like tidal waves, almost controlling the more forward-presenting bass synth and taking over in the intro and breaks. Even that relentless beat becomes secondary as those waves swell in and one might momentarily forget they’re listening to techno.

“Spectral” is more classically drum & bass and was likely so named because there’s certainly a broad spectrum of sound involved in it. With a classic, somewhat mellow old school darkstep beat anchoring everything, Forbidden Society once again goes to the depths of sub bass with this track to comprise the foreground synth but the most consistent synth pattern is actually set a bit farther back in terms of loudness. A higher-pitched fraction of the melody carries the track but it’s actually an amalgam of sounds at different pitches, creating a multi-layered note that FS then manipulates, fading it in and out and leaving a trail of its echo through almost every part of the track. With all the echoes and other sound design, listening to this track is like entering a cave or actual echo chamber where there’s so many sounds bouncing off the walls, the listener starts to hallucinate and think a train is coming, but it always fades out into the distance. Very cool stuff.

Forbidden Society is one of those rare artists who will push boundaries and as he gets his sound out more and more into the wide world, the more it will help widen those boundaries and create a whole new standard of production not just for drum & bass but for all the genres around it. Just like in “Spectral,” his sound won’t love forever in an echo chamber; at some point, its momentum will be self-perpetuating and creating new sounds all the time.

“Spectral” and “Hypno” drop tomorrow, October 22 on Forbidden Society Recordings. No pre-order/pre-save links at the moment but click here on the day for purchase and stream options. Check out his website as well for all the up-to-date news and merch.

Valentino Khan completes ‘FRENCH FRIED’ EP rollout

In early September, Valentino Khan surprised fans with “Blackmail,” the prominent house producer’s first foray into his French electro project FRENCH FRIED. Since then, Khan has released one song from the EP every couple of weeks, most recently sharing his mid-tempo single “Divison.” Now, FRENCH FRIED is available in full. In a press release, Khan shared what his new EP means to him:

“This body of work was heavily inspired by my first exposure to dance music. French artists played a huge role in creating sounds that drew me into the genre. When the first wave of this hit America, it impacted me by pushing boundaries in a unique way. I hope to continue that innovative spirit not only with this music, but with all my future releases as well.  Enjoy.”

“Everybodysgonnawannadancewithme” is the fourth and final piece to Khan’s FRENCH FRIED EP. While the project’s closer lacks the Gesaffelstein-esque grit and distortion of its predecessors, it still overtly references its electro ancestors with a distinct Valentino flavor sprinkled in. FRENCH FRIED is Khan’s first EP since 2019’s House Party.

Benedict – Warzone – Scratch Massive Remixes

Heavy 80’s influence on these remixes, especially the original Scratch Massive remix [non ‘Beat’ remix] –which really hit the spot for me this month for various reasons, the spookiness and also the fact I am watching Stranger Things at this exact moment. Australian alt-pop prodigy and rising artist Benedict released a two track remix package of her single “Warzone” and both are great. Check out a quote from Benedict below and stream the remixes under the jump! Enjoy

Speaking of the meaning behind the track, Benedict revealed: “My single ‘Warzone’ is about many different relationships we have over time. Relationships with partners, friendships, family, government, religion. Learning the paradigms of these things and how they can change very quickly from positive to negative. Trusting and loving when you only receive narcissism and gaslighting in return. Some relationships are warzones that can break us down mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. It is about the loneliness and pain that you take on then healing from past hurts and breathing your truth. As each human is unique and special it is about stepping out and trusting your heart and your goodness and fighting for your life. To me the most important thing is to become stronger and be your true self no matter what the consequences and live in your full truth as well as love others for their differences and unique selves.”

Billy McFarland Has Launched a Tell-All Podcast Called “Dumpster Fyre” from Prison

The infamous face of Fyre Festival, Billy McFarland, is ready to tell his side of the story about how “the greatest party that never happened” all went down.

You may be surprised to hear that McFarland seems to have had a coming to terms with the role of his involvement in the disastrous event. “When I think about the mistakes that were made and what happened, there’s no way that I can describe it but just, ‘What the fuck was I thinking?” McFarland told The Daily Mail.

Of course, the marketing “guru” has a top-notch name for his forthcoming tell-all podcast: “Dumpster Fyre.” McFarland recorded the podcast in a series of 15-minute phone interviews from the Elkton Federal Correctional Institution, where he is serving a six-year sentence.

Alesso & Dillon Francis Collaboration, “Take My Breath Away,” Turns Four Years Old

This last year has likely felt like the longest of our lives, but it also makes four years ago seem like an absolute eternity. This time four years ago, Alesso and Dillon Francis officially dropped their one and only collaboration, “Take My Breath Away.”

Originally teased by Dillon himself at his annual IDGAFOS show in Los Angeles in December 2015, the final product ended up sounding much different, and even without Dillon’s name on the track. However, he’s still credited as a writer and producer, and the choice to not have his name on it was likely either due to the label or some personal reason.

At the time, Your EDM wrote, “This is a song that can be replayed dozens of times without any decrease in enjoyment – you can take my word for that, I’ve had it on repeat this whole morning.”

Well, four years later, and it still sounds as fresh as the day it first dropped. Whether you’ve never heard this song or want to experience it again, check it out below!

Last Heroes shine on sophomore Ophelia Records EP, ‘Finding Light’

Following up their divine debut Ophelia Records EP, Moments, from last September was no simple undertaking for Last Heroes, who have spent the year pushing numerous superlative originals through the label, including a co-effort with none other than the label boss himself and HALIENE, “Don’t Wanna Fall.” Now, making a grand re-entrance to Seven Lions‘ home, the duo has overtly eclipsed itself yet again as Last Heroes formally share their eight-track sophomore EP, Finding Light.

Preceded by two previews in “Love Like Us” with RUNN as well as “Passing Through” alongside Trove, Finding Light adds another welcomed chapter to the Colorado duo’s burgeoning stamp on the melodic terrain. Last Heroes tack on six other heartening outings, stretching the runway of their peerless sound all the way from the EP’s transcendent preamble on “Daybreak” to a healthy serving of progressive house on “Forevermore” with Isaac Warburton.

Hellove Releases Debut Single ‘Lie’ with Trove

Hellove, the brand new project from Estonian Eurovision Finalist, Igor Volhonski, has launched with a gorgeous pop-dance ballad alongside Australian singer-songwriter, Trove. Expressing a longing, emotional message, ‘Lie’ follows the narrative of two-faced lovers and dishonest relationships. Available to stream across all platforms, fans can now discover Hellove.

Emerging with lightly plucked guitar strings, ‘Lie’ builds upon a filtered vocal chop, expanding with Trove’s yearning vocals. The breakdown collapses with stadium-sized drums, blossoming into a multipart chorus, lyrically harping on toxic relationships and clarity achieved in hindsight. Layered synths emerge in the second half of the track, intertwining with electric guitar and stunning vocal harmonies, tying up a fantastic debut from Hellove.

“Releasing my debut song together with an artist I’ve been following for a while is definitely an experience of its own. Glad that Trove was up for a collaboration and added an exciting twist to the song. He gave the already uplifting instrumental a unique feeling, explaining how difficult it is to end a relationship and move on, while still thinking the best is yet to come.” – Hellove

You can stream “Lie” on all platforms here, or find it below on Spotify!
