Alicia Keys recollects asking Prince to cowl ‘How Come You Do not Name Me’

Alicia Keys has spoken about how she persuaded Prince to let her cowl his 1982 single ‘How Come You Don’t Name Me’ for her debut album.

The singer, who marked 20 years of her first document ‘Songs In A Minor‘ on Saturday (June 5), informed the story of how she obtained permission from Prince, who was famously reticent about samples and other people masking his music.

Talking to Ebro Darden of Apple Music Hits on, Keys recalled: “He takes me to Paisley Park. And this place is sort of a dream. And he’s strolling me via Paisley Park, [I’m] 18 years outdated. He has like 900 pianos.

“[He says]: ‘That is the piano after I wrote ‘When Doves Cry.’ That is the room that we sit on the ground with the purple issues and we write songs.’ I couldn't imagine it.”

Keys continued: “Then he says, ‘That is the stage. We would like you to carry out slightly set for my closest individuals.’ He would invite them to Paisley Park no matter he did. He had his personal universe going. And he was like, ‘One factor. You may’t curse.’ And I used to be like, ‘Properly, he should not know me, as a result of I curse.’”
