Black Honey share single ‘Useless’ and new album ‘Soak’ about “a decade creating music and artwork as an addict”

Black Honey have shared a brand new single ‘Useless’, taken from their upcoming new album ‘Soak’. Discover all the main points beneath.

The band’s fourth album is about to be launched on August 15 (pre-save here), and has already been previewed by final month’s nihilistic, creepy pop observe ‘Psycho’.

Now, they’ve shared one other style of the document with ‘Useless’, a shoegaze, dream pop-inflicted anthem wealthy in scuzzy guitars and pensive lyricism.

Exploring the theme of dissociation, it sees vocalist Izzy B. Phillips drawl on the refrain: “You may’t kill me now trigger I’m already useless/You may’t hear the gang, that scream in my head/You may’t kill me now trigger I’m already useless for you.” Try the lyric video beneath.

Per a press launch, the document attracts on inspiration from Stanley Kubrick, and follows a theme of the band referencing iconic administrators of their work, akin to Quentin Tarantino, who impressed ‘Black Honey, Written & Directed’ and Wes Anderson for ‘Fistful of Peaches’.

Talking on the album, Phillips shares: “’Soak’ is me processing a decade of touring and creating music and artwork as an addict. It’s me selecting on the layers of messy, romantic, complicated, woozy, lovely and fucked up issues. Who I believed I used to be, who I used to be imagined to be and who appears to be like again at me now are all so totally different however I’m sort of right here for it.”

‘Useless’ and final month’s ‘Psycho’ mark the band’s first new materials since they took a year-long break following the discharge of their 2023 album ‘A Fistful of Peaches’ and the follow-up single ‘Lemonade’.

NME caught them reside in Kingston in 2021 and gave the present a glowing four-star evaluation, describing the gig as “loud and raucous, and regardless of all the protection precautions, it feels harmful.”

It went on to say: “Black Honey appear to be a band unleashed. Philips fights again tears earlier than the ferocious shut of ‘Run For Cowl’ and, true to kind, her microphone breaks in the midst of the tune. Clearly anticipating the worst, she doesn’t skip a beat and finds a spare. Seems you actually can’t hold an awesome band down.”
